It's my first post on NWN campaigns, and I want to ask for your guys' opinion on my new character.
Race: Elf, Sex: F, Class: Sorceror (12) Archane Archer (3).
Attributes:
Str: 14 (for the attack bonus)
Dex: 16
Constitution: 6 (the lowest attribute that a character can possiblely get, ...I did this quite intentionally)
Wisdom: 10
Intellegence: 14 (for the skill bonus)
Charisma: 16
A rather malformation of a character--since I only get 2 hp max when I level up my sor(this actually saves my time to cancel my level up everytime it didn't reach my highest hp gain)--somewhat consistent with my ideal of "frail beauty"... Besides, just use endurance potions or the endurance spell, and hp can be gained retroactively, though just temporarily.
In terms of skill points, I maxed out concentration, spellcraft, tumble and lore, and I still seem to have a few left. I don't want to waste them on spot or listen when I level up as a archer, coz my familiar provides them. I don't want to waste them on remove traps, coz I have that 3rd level remove trap spell, and when I see a bunch of boxes and cases, I just smash them with my fireballs(far more effective than lock picking)...Hide and move silently are both useless, coz I don't get the sneak attack, and besides I can use improved invisibility anyways. Maybe I'll put them in combat training(the skill that prevents knock down or sth) later in the game--if I'm ever gonna be caught in close combat. This sort of make me come to the conclusion that skill points aren't that useful to sors anyhow.
Computer recommended feats are almost always useless. I picked spell penetration and Greater spell penetration, weapon focus, point blank shot and some others. Why should I spend money and experience in brewing a potion when I can pick up tons of them almost everywhere in the game? Why would I spend money and xp crafting a crappy wand while I can just sleep and rest to recover my spells? In BGII TOB, as a rouge, you can brew a potion and scribe a scroll a day for free by wasting two slots in special ability. I didn't even do that. Makes no reason for me to change my mind in NWN.
I remember contemplating hours to choose the best known spells for a sorceror when I was playing BGII. In NWN, I discovered that you not only get to change all your spells when you level up, but also can change your familiar! Making the sorceror class even more empowering than in BGII. Sors rule in every game!(except in diabloII 1.10...)
I just wonder, once I reached the maximum level for archane archer(10) and sorceror (30), how many spells I will be in short compared to a pure sorceror(40)?
I'm gonna pump all my additional stats into charisma anyways. So the bonus spells will even out my lack of levels.
What bonuses do you get after reaching the AA level 10?
I got curious myself, and used cheats to level up quickly and brought my character to level 40 to test it. I ended up bringing my arcane archer level high enough to get a +11 enchantment on all arrows. My attack bonus and damage with the bow was quite nice. I've never tried it in game though so I can't say how it would do for survival.
I think you get a bonus feat every 4 epic levels , and +1 arrow enchantment every 2 levels after 9th (+6 at 11th, +7 at 13th, +8 at 15th, +9 at 17th, +10 at 19th, +11 at 21st, etc.).
thanks a lot Magrus! I wonder how you get the console commands.
Your welcome. I use them to do character concepts before going through the game.
Open up a game, hit the " ` " key, then type in "DebugMode 1" and hit enter. That turns it on, hitting that same first key again will open the console, hitting the "tab" key will list commands you can use in it, hit it repeatedly to cycle through the list.
Opening the console, then typing in "dm_addlevel" and hitting enter will level you to 40. Placing a level after that, like "dm_addlevel 15" would add 15 levels.
Hope that helps.
