Is 40 the max level for Epic Paladin?

Have a Paladin that I leveled up in the Snowglobe to a level 40 anticipating adding more feats and skills--but the game doesn't seem to allow further level ups. Is that it or will I be able to do more as the game progresses? It is very disappointing if this is all there is and the book that comes with the game makes no mention of a max level--I would have done things differently if I had known there would be limited options.

level 40 is the max level for all characters. So a fighter20/mage 20 will also not be able to progress further.

Well that is written in the manual.

L40 is also an insanely high level in D&D, and one you'd never attain by playing "normally" through the game.
