Inquisitors too powerful?
A Mage with Spell Immunities to Abjuration and Divination in a sequencer will be totally immune to both Dispel Magic and True Sight... That leaves the Inquisitor nearly powerless. What's he going to do? Knock on Stoneskins? Chase a Mislead? Unequip Carsomyr to deal with Protection from Magical Weapons? The Mage would have all the time in the world to do as he pleases...

You’re right Xyx, I didn’t realize that spell immunity-abj protected against dispel magic. Are there any mobs in the entire game that cast immunity-abj? If not, then my original point that Inquisitors make the game too easy is still valid. Though I will concede that they probably would not win a PvP fight with a mage. Can anyone beat a mage in PvP (other than another mage)?

Tut, tut, tut. People never learn. Your mighty mages and invincible inquisitors are no match for the level 1 Kobold Shaman.
Quiver in your boots, the level 1 Kobold Shaman is here and will rend the bodies of you level 63.2 parties and defile their ugly corpses.

Breach rulez. It removes all combat protections (Stoneskin, Protection from Magical Weapons, Mantle...).
Spellstrike removes all magic protections (Spell Immunity, Globe of Invulnerability, Spell Turning, Spell Trap...). Not exactly a vital spell; none of the possible magic protections stop even half the spells in the game. The most common ones (Deflection, Turning and Trap) don't even stop Breach or area spells.
Pierce Shield removes a single magic protection and lowers magic resistance a bit. IMO you're better off casting Lower Resistance and area spells instead.

You guys ever heard of Imprisonment? That's why Kangaxx is so hard! Sorcerer will without a doubt kick anyone's but as he can imprison all the inquisitors in the world
oops, got carried away...
Sorcery and Shadow together as one, the arcane and the dark united. Through our knowledge and skill none can stand against us. We are as one, infallible and invincible. The Shadow Mages.
Yeah, but with imprisonment he wont get any loot, nor xp (well.. whats there to loot from a poor inquisitor anyway)... and a assassin can kick a sorcs butt any time!

You can Imprison someone, rest (load up your Stoneskins, Spell Triggers, Chain Contingencies, and so on), cast (literally) dozens of trap spells (Skull Trap, Symbols, Delayed Blast Fireball) in the place you Imprisoned him (just keep on resting and casting). Cast Freedom...
If he still survives, just Imprison him again. With Improved Alacrity and Vecna's Robe, that could be done almost instantly.
No PKiller like a Mage or a Sorcerer...

Assasins can also take out a inquisitor with the right tactics. Swashbucklers can also hold up agianst them with their AC bonuses.

Well, I just finished ToB and I still feel that Inquisitors are too powerful (in PvE, not PvP). Got a group of Hive Mothers and Mariliths? No problem, one uber-dispel magic will instantly drop all those stoneskins 100% of the time.
There may be some spells that aren’t affected by dispel magic, but I have to think they are few and far between. I’ve never had it happen where I’ve uber-dispeled a monster and then not been able to damage it with my fighters. So I’m pretty sure that it drops all physical protections like stoneskin and protection from magical weapons. I don’t think it gets rid of a Mislead, but the Inquisitors truesight will handle that.
I think I’m going to start over with a non-Inquisitor party just to see how much harder the game is without one. I figure I’ll need at least two full-time mages to equal the Inquisitor’s spell removing ability. I’m tempted to play a PC mage/sorc, but I don’t think I will since Edwin is far and away better than any PC mage/sorc could ever hope to be. I’m tempted to try an archer - I think I’ll give the Viconia romance a shot this time

Sorcerers get loads more spells than Mages, and can (in time) learn more different spells than you really need (especially if you have a backup Mage anyway). Moreover, they can cast whatever they want without having to specify their slots in advance. Add to that a Dex of 18 and some good Hit Point rolls, and you have a PC superior to Edwin in just about every way.Originally posted by 45th Parallel:
