Please tell me who they are

Post by Minerva »

A little question has come to me while reading a weapon details. Who are giants or humanoids?? And which creatures are included as shapeshifters or regenerating creatures? I have some idea for the undead, but others are little tricky.

Giants are, well Giants! Humanoids are any creature that closely resembles a human, ie Hobgoblin or Ogre but not a Kobold.

Shapeshifters are creatures that can change their form like Dopplegangers. Regenerating creatures are Trolls.....

Well, after reading Vicsun maybe my 'humanoid' definition was a bit too broad....

suprising a weapon in the game that gives +4 againt giats (+1 normal)works on stome types.
Regenaration gives back HP. trolls and greater wolfwere regenerate.

Question: Does the description posted for giants mean "giants" or giant class?

Drakron; Is your Nietzsche quote from BGI or Diablo? My favorite is "That which does not kill you makes you stronger", which was used in the Conan movies/books.

I'm pretty sure that most weapons that have special usage against a specific class will state that class specifically in it's description. Therfore, if it doesn't say 'Dragons' or 'Giants' then it wouldn't have any added features against those classes.

Now 'Giantkin' may be a different matter and be refering to all 'larger than human' classes (Golems, Ogres, Ogrillions, etc.), but I may be wrong there also!

Exept one puint you are right, giantkin are the giants, ogrillon, ettins ...
but golems are magiacally created, they are not giantkin (giantkin does not mean giant sized, it means race related to the giant races)

Golems are definitely not considered giants. Golems are golems. Same with dragons. Kobolds, goblins, and the like are considered humanoid in AD&D, but I don't know about BG2.

Ahh, makes sense about the Golems. But the 'rat-dogs' (Kobolds) are considered 'humanoid'? Now that's strange.... Have to refer to my Monsterous Compendium(TM) later.

Thanks for the info.....

Yep. Whenever armies of goblins and orcs and the like invade a place, it is said that the place was beset by a humanoid horde.

golems = giants

just check out the warhammer +1 (+4 against giants (or was it giantkin))

it says it is +4 against golems.. not sure what else tho

(if it is giantkin the i may be wrong)
but there are no giants left, you read the book in the Adventurers mart called fall of the titans or something like that, they all lemminged into the sea following a comet... .lol

There's a difference between titans and giants. Titans, I think, were supremely powerful, even more so than storm giants. Giants DO exist. Many varieties, as well. If you played Icewind Dale, which takes place 100-200 years before BG2, you fight many of them. The kinds of giants include storm giant, fire giant, frost giant, stone giant, fog giant, and hill giant. Giant-kin include ettin, verbeegs, ogres, and at least two others that slip my mind. Some assistance Drakron? One species is seriously deformed, and the other can never tell a lie.
