Can you be more specific ? Like your PC configuration, System configuration and etc ? I can't seem to see the problem clearly if you only describe that

p3 650
asus p3v4x (via apollo pro133A)
leadtek gef2mx 32mb sdr
win98 1st edition
directx 7a

it has run on this system with the same things installed b4... but i am constantly reinstalling due to instability... but this is different because it is the only program being weird.

I have installed the bg2 patch... I have deleted the cache, temp cache on the c:, windows temp folder contents, and have copied the cd's 2 3 and 4 contents to my bg2 directory, but i havent tested it yet.

+ how do i copy the contents of cd1... the ini file says e:/cd1/
but there is no cd1 folder on the cd!?

How much internal mem do you have? And how much free disk space WHILE running the game? (ALT-TAB to check this out).

It could be that lacking either of these two causes the problem. Also, defragging your harddisk might help ...

128mb pc100

not a lot of hdd space.. but i have done a full install and still had the problem with about 700mb spare

it either gives me a blue screen, just freezes with the windows cursur showing through bg2, or shuts down with a dong and says there has been an abnormal program shutdown, or something like that, also saying about c++... i keep forgetting to c&p the error msg

Check the previous post on this subject and I believe you will find out it has something to do with the asus.

I don't remember what topic it was under ,but IIRC the persons helping figured out a way around it.

it would be gr8 if ppl could give the topic title, or a link to it, instead of just saying, "the other topic" [edit]because that doesnt help as much as giving a link/topic[/edit]

That's a bit mean Cyphus. People are just trying to help.

Although a thread search is needed. Why don't you suggest it to Buck?

sorry, i know it was but im not very happy, and it seems that ppl keep saying that whenever they try to reffer something, i have just wasted 15 minutes doing a search and looking through 7 pages of topics, and i cant find it anywhere > Image

i think it may be a dx glitch, because sometimes it seems like part of the display is shaking/moving like there is a mini earthquake on only part of the screen (not the critical hit shaking)
so i think im gonna try dx8 again... Image

Do you have the direct x 3d option enabled ? If you do try to disable it. I happen to encounter this problem with DX 7a.
Also when you reinstall have you uninstall the game ?
Do you also try to check the system with norton utility (Norton windoctor or Norton system check)? If norton say something about application error regarding application path (use advanced to view the error) just disregard it since norton also cause problem by correcting that which it says error.
Another thought : don't try the patch yet since it cause some problems than repair it.

@Weasel : Chill a bit, some work stress creepin on you ? Image BTW How's your RTK novel ?

--- "asus p3v4x (via apollo pro133A)"

BG has (had ?) problems with motherboards having the via xx133 chipset.

Please look at www.interplay.com directly, as far as I remember this problem is not solved.
I heard (don't know by myself) that
a) turning all videos off should avoid this
or b) if you are experienced, change speed of FSB back to 100 MHz

Yes now I see you did, and I didn't read it when I posted . And I will edit my post to show that. But it does pi## me off that people complain about the help they get.

Type in :asus in the search slot.

But there going to say the same thing mikel said.

well, im glad we got that sorted Image i was gettin worried then..

right, ive reinstalled, AM NOT going to apply the patch.. i dont want aerie anyway, i want to go after jahera..... My fsb should be ok, i dont really see any reason why the hardware setup would cause the problem i was having... from what I saw it was a software problem, I'm sticking to my main gripe about via boards, and thats their terrible agp implementation on the 133(a) chipset....
I'll let you know how it went in the morning... im going to defrag overnight before reinstalling it

If this is the problem where the game disappears and your desktop appears, I had the same problem. It happened to me whenever a movie started. It IS because of the via apollo 133 chipset. I fixed the problem by disabling the movies in the baldur.ini file. Under Program Options, type in Disable Movies=1 and eliminate any other lines which enable the movies. You don't get to see the movies, but at least you don't constantly crash.

Thanks, Madison the Gray.
Now finally I've got a confirmation that my advice disabling the movies really solve it. Until now I never got any feedback, so I was not sure if it really worked.
