Which are better cleric, mage ,mage specialist, or druid?
Im new to this game and wanted to know which uses more spells and which spells were stronger. Also wanted to know which spells are most effective for each. What are the weakness and strengths?
you should divide into two catigories, and have 1 from each catigory:
Priests:
Cleric: A religous person, who is granted spells by their god. Clerics can wear all armours, but can only use blunt weapons. Still, they can make a very good supporting fighter, and can cast useful spells to buff up your party
Druid: A priest of nature. Druids spell selection is pretty ****ty, and they cannnot wear good armour. Get some cool high level abilities later on (i.e. immunity to fatigue) but not particularly good
I prefer cleries
Mages:
Regular Mage: Well studied in all fields of magic. May use spells from any spell school
Specialist mage: Focuses on one particular school of magic. Basically, you get 1 extra spell each level (i.e. if a normal mage can cast 2 level 1 spells each day, a specialist can cast 3). However, they are not allowed to use any spells from the opposition school
My recomendation: If you only have IWD, go with a specialist (necromancers are good, they dont get to use illusion, which is pretty crappy anyway)
If you have heart of winter aswell, go with a normal mage. You will reach higher levels, so you will get lots of spells anyways, and with HOW, the specialist classes have more opposition schools

I wouldn't recommend a specialist, b/c he won't be able to memorize & cast spells of his opposition school, and that's a great loss. His advantage is that he gains more spells each level, but the difference is not that significant and you can get bonus spells for your high intelligence, too.
A mage is an outstanding character. Weak at the beginning, but most powerful at the end. It's fascinating to follow his improvement, and I dare say it's really difficult to get on without one in your party.
A cleric is useful, too, and his healing/buffing spells definitely make a difference!
A druid is more interesting than useful, imho. He gets some cool spells (rest of them can't be cast indoors
), but poor at battle, so I don't think the juice really worth the squeeze in his case. I've never played with a druid of level higher than 5, so I don't know what's high level abilities he gets (never really got the point of shapechanging either...)
Hope that helped

Woo, no way. Illusion is one of the best, mirror immage is the ultimate spell in bg. So damn usefull. (although i think slightly nerfed in BG) I like transmuters although you don't get necromany. Maybe choose one of each. Always go for specialists too, 1 set of spells out of reach but alot more spells to cast. Go for 2 different specialists and your fine. A cleric/fighter multi is good. A bit like Jaheria.

I tried to use each of the them in a party with two fighters as gaurdians. It was working well but the only problem is my mage keeps dieng. My cleric for my suprise was still alive. The reason iwas suprised to see my cleric alive was he only had 1 spell in the beginning. Now I need to know how to keep my mage alive.
-My mage is level 2
-My cleric level 3
-My druid level 2
-My Mage specialist level 2
Im on the vale shadows level still I also want to know should i go with offensive spells or Defensive. Also it will be helpfull if you could tell me what kind of spell is usefull for each. Thankyou for the help.

Actually, the lowest nr of chars I ever played was four.
How to keep your mage alive:
Always keep him in the back. Someone said that necromancers are goob b/c they don't get illusion spells - that's ... ahem... not ture at all. Illusion spells are the best to hide your wizard (I'd never be able to finish Battle Square wihtout Mirror Image), I wouldn't miss those for anything.
And keep in mind that a low level mage is always the most vulnerable and weakest character, but at the end it will all pay off! He will be the most efficient. (I'm doing Battle Square with my mage, and that's something!)
