Dual Class F/C, how cast spells?

Post by By-Tor.com »

Hi, I started the game with a human fighter, and after he reached ninth level, I dual classed him to a cleric. I now have the cleric up to 6th level (fighter still at 9th), but cannot get spells for some reason. When I click on my spell book, everything's empty. How to I add/pray for spells?

The character's wisdom is 9, but I have it magically increased to 12. Does the base need to be at least 10 before I can get spells?

You need at least:

Wis10 for cantrips (level0)
Wis11 for level 1 spells
Wis12 for level 2 spells
Wis13 for level 3 spells
...

I'm sure you get the drift. :)
And yes, your -true- Wis must be of that level. Boosts do not count.

OH! Now I'm confused. Sorry, do you mean that you can't cast ANY spells of a ceratin level if your wisdom isn't high enough? Let me explain. In one section I have to get rid of a talisman of wisdom giving me plus 9 to my wisdom class, and when I do, I lose about five spell slots, two from level 6, 1 from level 5 and some from level 2. However, I don't lose *all* the spells in a level. My starting wisdom is pretty high though, I think I set it around 18 (that's why my fortitude is so low :-) ).

Any item that gives a spellcaster ability bonuses for their main magic attribute (cleric:WIS, mage:INT or sorcerer:CHA) will push the number of spells/day you can cast IF they are worn at the moment of "going to bed".

But they will NOT influence which level of spells you have access to and which not. The only thing deciding if you get acess to a spell level is your -base- ability score.

Meaning your Wis18 chara will be able to cast lvl8-spells some day, but will -never- be able to cast lvl9 ones unless you put a "real" ability point into your wisdom so you have a new base of Wis19. Those "real" points are gained every three (five?) levels iirc.
