Healing up beauty?

Post by txa1265 »

Hi - I'm pretty new to Arcanum, and have managed to hurt myself and take Beauty -1. How do I deal with that? I'm trying to play a diplomatic mage type, and that -1 doesn't help ...

Thanks,

Mike

As far I know, there is no way unless you get some training in Healing. I assume you got a "Scarred by ******, CHA -1", right? You can get rid of those using bandages and the Heal skill, I believe high level heal can even heal scars. I've never tried it with low level heal ... by the way you might consider saving, getting 1 in heal and then training to apprentice, then healing over and over and seeing if maybe 1 in heal + training MIGHT heal scars; this because I bet you wouldn't wanna spend more than 1 character point in heal ...

Magic Heal

This issue is part of questing in Arcanum, I look at the character screen before saving to prevent getting it when I reload. The fix is simple if you've put 3 points into White Necromancer to caste the Major Heal which does all healing. If you have a NPC with heal capability he may be able to caste Major Heal. Just talk to him and the second line down in the talk messages is a request for heal. Select major heal and you will be healed. Also the Herbologist (I think) in any town can heal too. If you get crippled going to Shrouded Hills talk with the Herbologist behind the barracks, you also get a quest there.

However, beauty does not affect the ability to fight so I usually wait until I can cast major heal as its part of the spell package I use.

Thanks to all ...

I thought I'd done a full heal, but when I did it this morning I get my beauty back.

The hardest thing is finding buyers for all of the junk I keep picking up ...

Anyone know if a 'red' weapon (broken?) can be fixed - I have the nice magic sword from shrouded hills that got broken in fighting the tech-spiders off of the sewers ...

Red Weapons and Armor

Yes red means it is destroyed but a Master in Repair can fix it for very little duribility cost. I always get master of repair before going into the Wheel Clan. I add Intelligence after achieving full Willpower and my preferred spell set. Next I save up 5 points to add to repair when I get the helm of the Damned.

The junk dealer in Tarant can do expert repair but can't repair red items. He is also where you get apprentice of repair and expert of repair.

You can always sell to junk dealers but sell all but 2 rings and all necklaces to the outside magic shops in Shrouded Hills, Tarant, Ashbury, Caladon. The junk dealer will even buy evil weapons and armor like the frozen shield.

There is a secret way to get to Caladon where the Master Repair trainer lives and works. Just take the crashsite camera with you and talk to him. No other Master Repair exists in Arcanum so you must have repair. All it takes is 10 addtional Intellegence points (for 18 I) and 5 for Repair. If your primarily a magic user and like a high magic to tech level then go and explore Ashbury Haunted castle. (I do this before going to the Island of Dispair.) In the bottom of the castle is the dark Lord of the Damned after battling the Lord Slaves and killing LOTD open his inventory and get everything. He will provide a ring and a remarkable helm that will provide 20 points of magic on the magic/tech meter for 20 points of alignment. If your a good mage you should have about +60 points in alignment so appling the helm twice will add +40 to magic level more than enough to offset the effect of adding Repair.

If your interest in the path to Caladon I'll put it below:

If you explored the area between Shrouded Hills and Dernholm and Black Root you probably found Wolf cave. Talking the shovel (from the abanded house in Dernholm) and camera with you go to the Wolf cave site. (Hard save to allow recovery if things go badly. Many creatures may try and stop you.) Enter the WorldWide map. Place one waypoint as far West as you can use left click to add and right click to remove and work your waypoint as far West as possible. If you find the actual point of Gorgoth Pass you can get through with out fighting. If you accept an earlyer waypoint be prepared to run. Run west using Strength or Speed spell to run faster. You should meet a rock wall. If you went West head South. When you find the entrance to Gorgoth Pass the trees and plants will be come much more colorfull. If you don't find it use the World Wide map to go back near your previous terminus. IF your close the World Map won't run. You may have ended too far South and you need to go North to find the pass. But in my experience it is usually South. And I have come to the entrance headon.

The valley of the entrance is between two mountains one fairly symetrical and the other with a broken ridge running North-West. You want to click close to the base of the broken ridge. You'll see several message stating you can't go here but the site is there and it takes many clickes to find. Using the World Map run a line of way points West and South just to the eastern slope of the most southern point. Thats Caladon. The Repair Master is mostly north of your landing point in Caladon.

Upon leaving Gorgoth Pass you can take the opportunity to find several points of interest while going to Caladon. Set a waypoint about 6 mm or 1/4 inch West of Gorgoth pass. The next waypoint to the North is about 5 mm below and slightly West of a single tree. The next waypoint South is on the point of a bay mid way on the coast. The third waypoint East is to the center of the western country. The next couple of waypoints are as needed to maintain center to 'find' Bolo alter. The last node South is on the eastern slope of the most southern point, Caladon.
