Video Problems for Win XP

Post by Maniax »

I'm currently using Win XP SP1, and a ATI Radeon 9600 Card.
When I play the game and the action gets busy(ie a lot of fighting), the video just hangs!
The sound in the background still continues(fighting sounds if its in a battle), but the video just freezes. Only way to get out is to press the reset button on my PC.
How do I solve this problem? I tried downloading the latest video drivers but can't solve it. Can't believe that my new PC can't handle the game, while in 1999 when i first played it worked without a hitch.
BTW I'm using the 1.1 patch.

Thanks and Regards!

Just a suggestion: perhaps you could revert to an older driver version for your graphics. I have no difficulty with my mobility radeon 9200 and WinXP SP1. Perhaps my driver isn't as new as the desktop ATI card driver, that's why.

I don't think it's an issue related to your graphics card.

I have an ATI Radeon 9700 Pro and the game works flawlessly (I just played it for a couple of hours yesterday, using the 4.7 Catalyst drivers).

Are you experiencing similar issues in any other applications (2D or 3D)?

In some cases, problems like this can be caused by your sound card. Update the sound card drivers and try disabling EAX in the game's sound menu. Updating your computer on windowsupdate.com and downloading Service Pack 2 is another (unlikely) possibility.
