OK, please bear with me, as you'll think I'm asking the same questions.
I'm trying to defeat Vixxy the Dragon Lich, and I've already started again as I couldn't defeat him before. I am now 22nd Wizard, 5th level Pale Master. I have tried going in and throwing spells at him. I got lucky and managed to chuck a Dispel Magic, Time Stop and then every spell I possess (you can imagine, click on quick slot, click on Vixxy non-stop). When I looked up, Vixxy breathed at me and I was just in time to see I had done no damage to him at all. I don't have the Magic Misiles spell and from where I am now, I can't buy it.
I tried going in as a Red Dragon to see if I could get across the traps and then to his essence to destroy him. As a dragon, the game will not let me down the coridoor, presumably I'm too big. However, I did manage to find the secret door, just before a Bone Golem took me out (I couldn't harm him as a Red Dragon).
OK, then tried going in with a Tenser's transformation, a Brawler's greater strength belt and everyone buffed up to the nines. I couldn't get across the room in time, but did manage to kill Vixxy. Just as I was about to try and disarm the traps, Vixxy came back to life, I lost my transformation and quickly died.
Tried going in as myself with my Keen sight (plus my sword has Keen too). Ran across the room and walked back and forth around where the secret door is. My character won't 'spot' the secret door as herself. And of course, the more time I spend not fighting, the more Vixxy kills my companions and then comes for me.
Do I have to start again? I don't know what else to do. I also have the problem of being a nice character (now Lawful Neutral from Chaotic Evil), and running the risk of not being able to progress as a Pale Master. My companions complain whenever I do anything bad, and I'm afraid of them leaving me, or killing me (as Valen is pretty suspicious of me already). So I may have to swop classes (I'm thinking Cleric) before I get any of the real bonuses of being a Pale Master. I'll have effectively wasted five levels.

I belive there is a secret passage past the traps to get to his Phyla..something - can't spell
This will bypass the traps, but are the traps so deadly you just can't walk over them?
As for why you can't kill the dragon - well that is strange. I don't recall having that many problems with him as a sorcerer/RDD, when using the Greater Belt of the Swordman and various other equipment.
I don't know if Vix. regenerates outside combat, otherwise you could set a binding point with the relic and teleport back and forth and rest up in between.

Yes, there is a secret passage, but you need to be able to find the secret door in order to be able to use it. For some reason my dear Half-Elf with the Keen sight that can't be turned off won't see it in her human form.
Yes, the traps kill me even in Tenser's Transformation mode.
I tried setting up a Binding point. Tried to use The Relic before really getting into a fight, and found I was not allowed to use the object. Either it or I was "too excited to talk to you right now".
I have even tried running out the door, resting and going back in, but then Vixxy has moved in front of the door and of course attacks physically the first person in (me). It also means that my henchmen (that are left) are all stuck behind me unable to reach Vixxy. *sigh* Looks like I'm starting again.....Maybe go with a fighter if I can't progress as a PM.

Under other circumstances I would reprimand you for breaking all the rules when creating a caster, but since I'm feeling charitable I'll help.
Find Traps will disarm traps, as well as finding them.
Bigby's Crushing Hand is the single best spell for immobilising Vix'Thra.
Metamagic should make the battle against Vix'Thra easy.
He only has some 500 HP so a few anti-undead spells should work fine.
He can't regenarate.
He casts Greater Stoneskin and Elemental Shield, so dispel magic.
His breath is Negative Energy, so buff accordingly.

"Heya! Have you been to Baldur's Gate? I've been to Baldur's Gate... Oops, stepped into something. Have you stepped into something?"
What rules did I break *sniff* *sniff*? I am purely wizard till 22 class, Pale Master (pure) for five! I think I got a bit misunderstood over the Red Dragon bit, I actually Polymorphed into one, not I became a Red Dragon disciple. Do you forgive?
Ah, didn't know that about disarming traps, thank you. Bigby's either hand did nothing, don't know how to use Meta magic properly (probably where I'm going wrong) but I thought it involved losing spell slots (as in you need two spell slots for one spell). I need my spell slots, I wanted Pale master so I could have more bigger spells, not less for them.
I cast dispell maigc, it didn't make any difference. Any anti -dead spell I cast, he resisted. He doesn't need to regenerate, in the time it takes for me to try and get past the traps, he's come back to life with another 500 HPs.
Having said all this - I beat him! I had to keep telling my familiar to come with me, and she disarmed the traps. I ran into the room and everyone followed me, they kept the Vixxy off long enough for me to dispatch the Bone Golems. I bashed away at the essence, stopping only to bring Naryya back to life. Once that was gone they kept hacking away and I threw every spell in my possession at him. Finally I waded in and did some hacking myself (there's only so long I can stand "Vixxy - near death"). He suddenly upped and died. MUCH rejoicing. Ran back to tell the Seer, got ready for the big battle, Matron's armies approaching......"NWN has now caused a problem. Your game will now shut down". Tried again from a save point, same thing. I think it's got its knickers in a twist either because I am carrying two Mirrors (I gave one to the Overlord but my journel still says I need to give it to him), or because I thought I would tell the Seer about my progress all in one go. I've actually done everything and haven't told her squat. Has everyone else been nipping back? I realsie I've probably missed out on xps doing that. I just thought I'd be debriefed.....

Congrats.
Don't worry about my rules, they're just for the discerning powergamer. What we need are some uber powergaming guides on this site.
What exactly happened when you used Bigby's? Did Vix'thra just teleport to you? And did you use Crushing, because thats the only one that works. What I meant for you to do was cast it, and pelt him with spells.
Also when Vix'thra resisted your spells, was it because of spell resistance?

Er....not sure. I cast the spell and it appeared around him, but he kept fighting. For the most part he concentrated on my fighters (while they were alive), but he did breathe at me on occasion and once I had taken some damage, he would walk over and wallop me with his teeth and claws.
Crushing? Sorry, not sure what you mean? Bigby's Crushing hand or is there another spell to do that?
I think it must be spell resistance. I'm coming to the conclusion that my wizard just does not cast particularly powerful spells. I seem to do more damage with my two swords than with my spells.
Oh well, I managed to get to "The Matron's armies are here!" before my computer froze on me. Will discuss problem with my technical person tonight.....

Yes I meant Bigby's Crushing Hand. The special thing about this it that it uses the cut-scene immobilise function, making it alot stronger (no freedom of movement
). You should have given your fighters ranged weapons for Vix'thra.
Well if it was spell resistance, shame on you for taking Palemaster. Also just as a note: Mordenkainen's Disjunction reduces SR by 10, and Greater Spell breach 5.
Do you have a Radeon? I crash alot too with a 9800 Pro.

Ah, but I can't give Valen a ranged weapon, I have to pry it out of his cold dead fingers (and even then I'm not sure he would give it up). Will bear in mind for Narrya, although she has a number of magic wands and staffs which she uses. I was suprised at how effective ranged weapons can be against magic users, my low-level Ranger took out Sable by using a light bow and acid arrows.
Ah, but I wanted Pale Master for the bloomin spell slots which I still don't have access to *sigh*. Also for that dead arm being grafted to my body, although it sounds disgusting......
I actually chucked both hands at him, and it still didn't help.
It's.....um....the equivilant of a Pentium 3....or maybe 2.5. It was built for me with all sorts of parts as it doesn't need an IP address (I don't use it for the Internet). Its processing speed has always been a bit dodgy, even "Age of Empires" gives me trouble sometimes. Last time it came up with the message that everytime my computer went to stand by, it stops responding. Wasn't sure what happens when NWN does its chase camera sequences, for example, I don't want those to stop functioning because I have turned off the stand-by function.....It has no memory problems however, as that was increased to the absolute maximum, and I don't keep any games that I don't play continously installed.
