HOTU golem four spells - spoiler

Post by papj »

I have defeated the maker, place all the golems part in the jammy and cast three of four spells; On the first two pedestals it offered me mass haste and greater sanctuary; on the second two it only offered true seeing, hence I cannot cast a fourth spell. I am a barb/sorc/reddragdisc. 4/13/4. Any idea what gives? Or what I spell(s) I need to complete the golem.

The spells you can cast on the pedestals are mentioned in a book on Golem building. I can however not remember for sure - but I think that book is on the lowest level (where the Maker is) in one of the bookcases, but I'm not sure.

And if you haven't got the spell memorized/learned or as a scroll, then of couse you can't cast it on the golem.

Well - most books in NwN dosen't do much either, so it can be easy to miss. Although most books with "importent" information has a different look then the ordinary "blue book" of the unimportent/trivial information.

* Spoiler *

Hello

Well, I found the book. I made sure that I could cast all the spells. I rearranged my spell book, and shifted the spells to quick slots just to make sure. However, when I right click on the pedastle, and cast the spell, although it worked with Mordakin's Disjunction (?spelling?) and one of the others, when I tried Bigby's Crushing hand (or whatever Hand it was - I did check), the Hand just grasped the spell pedastle. When I wanted to cast Time stop, it was blanked out, even though it was clearly in my quick slot. When I cast lighting, I damaged a few items in the room. So the furthest I have got is two pedastles with the relevant spells, but I can't get the other two to do anything. I have now given up.

Can anyone advise?

According to what I remember - you shouldn't right click and then actually cast the spell.
You should click on the pedestal, and it should initiate a dialog with you, where you can select the spell to "cast".

Actually, I tried that too. It took me a while to actually...um....read the book, as in, put the Golem parts in *without* removing the talisman first which will activate the pedestles. Then I tried clicking on them to see if they gave any hint as to which spells should go where, in case it was "pedestle dependent" for example. But no, they didn't say a work to me. It just says, "This pedestle is inscribed with runes and is a conduit (or has the potential to be powerful)"- something along those lines.

When I cast the spell through two of them, they stopped that rhythmic red glowing thing, so I thought that indicated that I'd done the right thing.

I might have one more go to see if I get any interaction. Otherwise, hang it, I'll forge on without the darn golem. From what other people have been saying, it might be best to fight without too many in my party any way. I finally killed The Maker, and got 298 experience points for it. I fight the Whattheirnames outside the Maker's building and get creamed. I would have said the Maker was more powerful, but there we go. However, I need a henchman since even with good spell craft and/or concentration, she gets whacked when sword swinging thugs move in.....

I apologise Xandax, you have to click *twice* on the pedestles. Then it works perfectly. Then I couldn't resist having the Shield Guardian with me. So I think I'll wander through the rest of the story and maybe go back and try it without henchmen next time.

Cheers!
