*Two Problems*SPOILER HotU

Post by ladyblack »

Yes, me again! OK, firstly, if one has a magic user or a fairly weak fighter, how does one do the temple fights without killing the guy who poisons you? I had a 19 level Paladin, first level champion of Torim, and she got mushed. I have a 22 level wizard, 1st level Pale Master, and she gets mushed - this is with whislt carrying two swords which give her two regeneration hit points every fight round. I tried to be sneaky and fight the major problem maker, the diseased troll, first so I'd still be fairly strong but I just got mushed even faster.

I've had to resort to killing the guy every time now, particulary as Valen Shadowbreath tends to flick his doubled handed chain at him and he falls over. So much easier.

Secondly, how the heck to you defeat the Maker? He is rated as impossible, and my paladin barely scratched his surface. I presume one can run around him to the portal and as I haven't found any Golem parts, I might just do that. Only I have the feeling that the drow I met by going out the entrance I entered by are waiting by the portal exit too? I got completely obliterated by them too.

For the temple fight:
The different chains yield a differnet creature to fight - and you can pull the same chain more then once. Therefore find out which creature you can kill easiest and then use that one continuesly.
Casters can rely on his spells (summons for isntance) while a warrior type can rely on potions. (Strenght, Endurace, Haste, Heal) and both can with good effect use different types of equiptment. I'm a strong spokesman for the Greater Belts of the Brawler/Swordsman/Archer because they make suchs fights much eaiser.

The Maker is a straight forward fight for a meele character in my oppinion, and isn't all that difficult. What you need is a decent weapon with a decent enchantment bonus (upgraded at the drow smith for instance).
Make sure you and your henchmen are hasted, buffed up on potions etc.
Actually - I found the maker much easier thent he Mithril Golems with both my paladin/CoT and Fighter/Barbarian/Weapon Master.

As for making a Golem and the Golem Parts - then you need to be an arcane caster to make it, so not for the Paladin.

Lastly - remember that the rating isn't to be taken as a strict "verdict" of how the fight will go. Impossible, just means that the creature is (I think it is) 5 levels or higher above your own. It dosen't mean it is impossible for you to to kill him (especially if you use henchmen - I personally use Vaelan and of course Deekin).

Oh good grief! I thought you had to fight a different monster each time, otherwise he would just keep you battling until you dropped dead! Or managed to beat them by some fluke. I can't rely on my spells though, as they don't regenerate when I rest after the fight. I did use Summon Creature VIII (as my Elder Fire Demon was already hanging about outside) but although he did very well against the creature, he got cut off from me the next time I went into the arena.

As for the Maker, well, I have a Gem sword which has an enhancement on it already but I asked for True seeing and couldn't afford any other upgrades. And now I'm stuck as I can't nip back to the smith without trying to go past the Drow Warriors. *sigh*. I will concentrate on getting my other character through the bits I've done with my Paladin and then try again with the Maker. I'm still working out the Obelisk thing as Narhyer (?) has been killed and can't bring her back to life again :-(. Yet.

Thank you.

Dosen't the Relic of the Reaper work?
You should be able to use this to go to the "Temple of the Seer", by teleporting to the "Reaper" and then taking the door that leads to the "Temple".

And what drow warriors are blocking your path out of the Isle of the Maker btw? I don't recall any drows on the Makers Island?

Well, firstly I didn't set a teleporting point on the Seer's temple. Whether that matters or not I don't know. I thought I could only teleport to places that I had set a point on.

Secondly, if you turn around when you get the The Maker's room and don't fight him, when you wend your way finally to the front door, you are greeted by a bunch of......ah, maybe they aren't Drow Elves. It's the guys who are on the Island moaning about the Golems wandering aorund. They say, "Oh, you've cleared out the place, so we'll go in and loot it." No gratitude, just, "We're going to kill you".

I'll try the teleportation thing.

IIRC then you don't need to set a binding for the temple of the Seer, just like you didn't with the inn, in chapter 1.

As for the Duegar outside the temple - you will meet them regardless. I usually just pay them off, but I had no difficulties in killing them all either :o :D
