Stuck in the Ruins of HotU (spoiler)

Post by hambrick0497 »

OK, I am SOOO stuck, and frustrated. I'm in the third level of the ruins. The Golems past the mirror trap just smush my party before I know what happens. I went to the walk through, and it seems I should've gotten a password from the Master's Assistant, but no matter what I do, I cannot get into the room he's in. I'm playing a fighter, and nothing I do budges the door. Maybe someone can tell me what I'm missing? Or an idea of how to defeat the mithril golems? I would really appreciate any help! I love this game, but right now I'm not having too much fun. Thank you.

Well - they are hard to fight, but they are very dooable.

Firstly - there is a password, but you need to be able to disarm the trap and pick the lock of the prison on the upper level, or be able to talk to animals.

Secondly - if one doesn't have the password, you need to fight the Golems to be able to open the door, so there is not much else to do.

What you can do to make the fight easier is try and pull one Golem to you at the time, so you aren't fighting both. It is possible, but might requier some manoeuvring.

There are also some pieces of equiptment that would make this fight a whole lot easier, but I would guess it is to late for you to pick thoese up, but they are the "Greater Belts of Brawler/Swordman/Archer", because they absorb 20 points of damage, from their respective damage type (blunt, slash, piercing) and they really make such fights easier.

Otherwise - withouth knowing which henchmen you use - you should always remember to buff up using potions; especially strenght and haste (unless you use boots of speed or armour of speed or something similar). Barkskin, endurance etc. are also very handy. Invisibility potions are also good - to give yourself a small pause to heal in and rebuff.
Also if you weapon doesn't do much damage, try to see if you have access to a weapon of higher enchantment bonus - even if you aren't as good with it. Enchantment bonus can make or break a fight.
Also - check if your armour has special abilities you can use with success. For instance Boots of the Gargoyle can cast stoneskin - combined with the belts I mentioned ealier, you can become virtual invulnerable against some damage.

Lastly - there is also a possiblity of creating some "Golem" utilities on the upper levels, which you would have learned about if you read some of the books there. I haven't tried them, but I could imagine that some of them might be usefull against these Mithril Golems.

This is about all the general advice I can give you.
The last thing you can do is to cheat to advance - and for that the "dm/console commands" can do some stuff for you - like modifing your characters attributes, levels etc. or right out kill anything in the area. But it is all things considere much more satisfying fighting through it yourself, but if you whish to learn of the console commands check out this page at bioware

Hope some of this helps, otherwise - post back and we will see if we can't get you through the area.

(btw - I've added spoiler to your thread title, to minimize the chance that somebody gets spoiled if they didn't want to  )
