Hard Disc Recovery?

Post by Robnark »

uh, okay, big problem. when trying to install a game, the computer crashed. it was only then bbotable in safe mode, and I tried a system restore. since then, my computer now claims that it cannot read from the hard drive. now I can think of a number of fixes, but there's a lot of stuff on the hard drive that I don't want to lose - any practical suggestions on how to get a working computer and my old data?

What version of Windows are you using?
Have you tried any hard disk checking utilities? (scandisk, chkdsk in2K/XP)

I use XP, but it's not booting right now so I haven't checked since I defragged two days ago.

buy a second drive, get xp up and running on the new drive, add the old drive as a slave, and then pull data off of it.
