Since all of you can't seem to enjoy a guilty pleasure, maybe I should invite fable's wife and debszelda's husband to stop by this thread . . .

My thoughts:

The consensus among the judges is that this year's group of finalists is the strongest yet, and I tend to agree. From top to bottom, they are better than last year's crop.

The people who had the best night were (in alphabetical order) Diana, Fantasia and LaToya. The people who did well, but not great were Amy, George, Jennifer, Jon Peter and Matt. John is handicapped by the fact that he has a certain style and he will struggle with the varying themes, plus his (lack of) stage presence shows he's only 16 (unlike Diana and Jasmine who held their own against people half again their age). Leah and Camile had the worst night, and I think those two plus either John or Matt will be in the bottom three tonight.

Leah and Matt are very good performers, but are vocally very weak, and this will be their undoing.

Jennifer needs to do something with her hair and stop hiding behind it.

Clay, Rueben and Frenchie would have kicked everyone's ass in this year's final group as well.

IMHO these kind of TV shows are just signs that the hegemony of our western culture is coming to an end. In a decade or two, Muslim culture will have taken over, if for no other reason that they're even more pushy than us in telling people how they should live (*). And most third world countries are more than a little tired of seeing us spend lots of money on useless things (like reality shows).
Just look at the great empires in the past: the Greek, the Romans, etc. They all went down after a certain amount decadence (like reality shows) creeped into their cultures. We're doomed. We should repent, for the end is near.

(*) I'm not worried though. My wife is a muslim. I'm covered.
She says: Lou, it's the Beginning of a Great Adventure

I do have a guilty pleasure. It's called sex. Considering the number of positions my wife and I have tried over the years, I'd say we're guilty in at least 44 out of 50 states.

Have your sexcapades included 3 midgets and a whip? Image
Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

No, but that doesn't lessen the sheer burden of guilt that we bear, with extraodinary grace. :D Besides, for all that your line is a clear ad for one of the finest serialized comic strip on the Web (Dungeon Crawl, Inc), when are you actually going to show us three midgets in it and a whip?

I'd be up for it as well, except for two small obstacles:

1) The Constitution of the United States (Article II, Section 1) explicitly states that the President must be no less than 35 years old (which I am not), and

2) The President of the United States must be a natural-born citizen (which I am not either).

Sadly, this leaves me with having to live out my dreams vicariously through American Idol and Porn Star: The Legend of Ron Jeremy.

Speaking of American Idol, I'm not surprised Leah ended up going home; although she is a reasonably polished performer, she is a weak singer. I was surprised that Amy and Jennifer were in the bottom three; I expected Camile and John to be there with Leah.

It's open for anybody over 18 and a US citizen. (Meaning it's not for real I guess)

(I would not be able to enter a Presidential race either, I'm not 35 and I doubt the US would claim me as a natural-born citizen :D )

I watched the results last night...and I agree Leah was the one to go...just from the bit that she did last night.

I think next week it will be John (red head). He just doesn't seem to fit the profile.

I actually have a copy of Clay Aiken and Justin Guarini's cd. I enjoy them.

...but ten minutes of results in an hour show...with commercials up the wazoo...

HLD and Deb :)

I'll definately try to stop by this thread next week to recap with you. :) I fell asleep through this weeks show, but I blame that on the husband keeping me awake the night before.

My vote right now is on Fantasia, though her style of voice may not appeal to all. :)

Wow, a Vivien sighting in my own American Idol thread!!!

I like LaToya and Diana. Fantasia has a great voice, but there's just something about her that annoys me.

I think Camile should have been in the last bottom three instead of Jennifer and unless she gets a lot better, real fast, she should be the next to go.

John is a good kid, has a reasonably good voice, but his style is not worthy of American Idol. He's also not as sharp a performer as Diana or Jasmine and doesn't have a lot of stage presence. I look for him to go after Camile.

Okay, so who's going home this week?

The Good: LaToya, Diana, Fantasia and George.

Camile, Amy, Jon Peter and John had rough nights.

Jennifer was okay and Jasmine was above average.

My picks for the bottom three tomorrow: Camile, John and Amy.

John's voice didn't hold up tonight, Camile was her usual weak self and Amy seriously needs to take the pink out of her hair. I think Camile is going home.

A couple other quick thoughts:

I don't understand why people like Jon Peter.

What a difference it would make if the audience voted people off instead of voting for people to stay.

Simon and Randy were right on for most of tonight. I can't understand why people boo Simon and don't let him get through his comments because when you strip away the way he says things, he's usually right.

Only Fantasia, LaToya, George and Diana weren't overwhelmed by the band.

Diana looked like she just came from the senior class production of Grease.

I don't know what it is, but I don't like Fantasia. She's a fantastic performer and has a good voice, but every time I see her in an interview, I think she has a bad attitude and that makes me not want to like her.

I liked LaToya's "cat" as well.

I think the 20,000,000 voters need to rethink or some of them were pushing the wrong buttons.

They had LaToya as one of the bottom three...

It amazes me that Camile, Jon Peter and John Stevens constantly evade being in the bottom three. They are consistantly the worst performers week in and week out.

I think next year they need to let the audience vote people off instead of voting for favourites.

Gotta love Elton John

LaToya and Jennifer definitely had a fantastic night.

George and Fantasia did fine for me.

Diana and Jasmine...I just don't think they had the vocal range needed for his songs.

...but the consistent stinkers were definitely Camille, Jon Peter and John Stevens...get them off.

Well, Camile is gone. Now we just need to eliminate John and Jon Peter.

I'm willing to bet the George/LaToya/Jennifer group was the top vote-getting group.

The more I hear Fantasia talk, the less I like her. "Randy and Paula like me", she says in her annoying nasal voice. If she'd listen to what Simon had to say, she might learn something and get better. I think her attitude will be her undoing.
