Q: re. Prince Thrommel & Sword
Q: re. Prince Thrommel & Sword
I have a CG party....Is there any advantage, like lots of XP's, to rescuing Thrommel and getting a 2nd rate sword in return, as opposed to letting him get killed in battle and taking Fragarach??
It's a matter of choice - I don't recall the xp bonus (if any - and it'll depend on your party level), but you get these badges - one of them with a courage effect - rings of +1 protection, and 2000 pp - per party member - plus Scather, which I considered a cool sword - but if you're really set on Fragarach, you'll have to kill him.
I play a CG party and I thought rescuing him was cool - I used him to help us fight for a while and then teleported out. A while later while I was traveling back to the Temple, my party was waylaid by his messengers.
I guess it's a matter of what items you want more if you don't have any alignment/moral-type feelings about your decision.

you can get swords very easily. all you need is a lvl 9+ cleric w/ raise dead. get near the exit of the temple on your way out with thrommel, kill him, take fragarach, his amulets, etc.. whatever you want and then cast raise dead on him. then escort him out and in like a month some guys will come to you, give you an absurd amount or rings of protection +1, a few magic potions, some stupid badges that do nothing, and scather, a greatsword w/ pretty much the same abilities as fragarach. it says bastard sword before you identify it, but it does 2d6dmg so it's obvisouly a greatsword b/c a bastard sword does 1d10
