Downloading mods

Post by elephreak »

I don't seem to be able to download player authored mods from eg. Neverwinter Vault. I managed to download and play the Biowar ones, like 'Winds of Eremor'. When I try to get any others, they just download as a text file and don't work. Can anybody help?

P. S. I am a lowly mac user. I don't know if that is the problem.

Ok - I did some quick research for you. It appears that all modules and hak pak file are fully cross compatible for Windows and Mac users - Mac users can even play online with Windows players on the same server. Here is a link to the bioware forum faq for Mac users:

Since the modules should work - I assume your problem is a file compression problem. These files are normally "zipped" files. That is they are compressed files - you need the file compression program to "unzip" them.

Most of the modules that I have downloaded from nwvault are compressed with winzip.

You can get a free shareware copy of winzip at:
http://www.winzip.com/

You need to download this software and install it - then you will be able to unzip the modules into your NWNs "modules" folder. Some modules also require hakpaks to be downloaded - this will be stipulated on the module information page. Hakpaks are downloaded the same way - but they need to be unzipped to your "hak" folder.

Hope this helps. :)
