Wizard weapons

Post by Keill Randor »

I've added a first level halfling wizard PC to my party. She came into the game naked and I was buying her some equipment, but she is showing as "not proficient" with a sling. The sling should be a simple weapon, and wizards are proficient with simple weapons. I'm confused...

Anybody know why she isn't showing any proficiency here? Maybe I'm just missing something easy. (and yes, I've installed the patch)

Thanks for any help!

Mage Weapons

AFAIK Wizards can ONLY USE dagger, quarterstaff, Light CrossBow, HeavyCrossBow (according to AD&D)

No Sling, no Javalin, no shortsword no nothing else....(no even armor or shields)

Those are the rules...sorry....

But it´s just fine...it´s better to have a Heavy CrossBow...really....

The downside of a heavy crossbow is that it takes a full round to load. At least that is the case in "real" DnD 3.5. I haven't tried one in this game.

The reason I'm confused about the sling is that I DID verify what I thought against the PnP 3.5 Player's handbook. Darts, javelins and slings should all classify as a simple weapon with which wizards are proficient. I'm assuming that this is just something that was missed in the conversion. I suppose I'll just have to go with a light crossbow until I get some decent spells. After all, who needs a weapon once I can rain down flaming death upon my enemies...

Thanks for the input. Maybe I'll try heavy crossbow after all. It just seems like giving a heavy crossbow to a halfling should be fun.

*SPOILER* (Sorta)
Wizards may not be proficient with shields but there are 2 shields you find in the game that are PERFECT for them. They are wooden elven shields. They have 0 check penalty so it doesn't hurt them to have it equipped (and gives them +2 AC) if you have someone who can enchant them, there is another bug that if you enchant them by +1 they become shields with AC +5

Repeater Crossbow

Well yes...

The crossbow takes the time to reload...

but fear not...¬_¬

(Spoiler)

On the Third level you will find Wonnilon´s Repeater Crossbow + 1....quite useful for a wizard...(and thus making reloading more easily)....

While you remain correct...by that time your wizard should be quite capable with spells....
