What is Keen

I havent played much in the way of D&D based games (most of BG1 and a little of IWD1). I picked up this magical dagger somethng's tallon, it has a +1 ehacement bonus and keen, my question is what is keen and what does it do in relation to play?

As I remember, "Keen" has influence on the critical damage roll range. (it is double or something, can't remember for sure)

So if a dagger for instance has 19-20 as a critical roll, then a Keen would have 17-20.

Just to expand, a keen weapon doubles the existing critical threat range off a weapon (improved critical not included).
