please help with nemelle problem

I need to talk to Nemelle to get the word from her for the decanter and to complete the quest with Aelwyn.

However, whenever I try to talk to Nemelle, she recites a small dialogue from a book or play or something and kills me. My possible responses are "Huh?" and "Ignore her", but regardless of which I choose, she kills me.

I've never talked to her before.
I've tried talking to her both before and after receiving the quest from Aelwyn.

Someone PLEASE help me out. If this doesn't get resolved, then I can't get Ignus.

I think that's the reaction that occurs when you attack her, or possibly her friend. Did you battle something in her area, and perhaps hit her accidentally? What is the exact fragment of conversation?

That's only supposed to happen if you've attacked her.

She doesn't turn red when you attack her so maybe you did so a while ago without realising it because she never turned red?

Now that you've mentioned it... I'm almost positive that this is the problem:

I stole from her with Annah, but when she failed, Nemelle did NOT turn hostile. The problem is, I assumed that meant that I didn't get the item, but that I also didn't get caught in the act. So I continued...

Obviously, she did catch me, but just didn't turn hostile. Now I just have to redo this past hour of playing...

It makes sense, given her personality and view of the NO's world, that Nemelle wouldn't actively attack you, but wait for you to approach her for conversation. With Nemelle, conversation is reality, so dialog is the weapon of choice.
