Saying hello and passing on a bit of Big Metal Cheese with the Big Metal Ammo Types

Post by Etherial »

Heylo! Ethy here with my first ever post! Whoo! So uhm... Oh. This is turning out to be a SPAM isn't it... ACK! Okay, I need to calm down and stop typing everything that I'm thinking... Damnit! Fingers! Stoppit! GAH! . . .

Okay...

I am, by all accounts, a flaming newb, but I've recently discovered a kick-arsed trick you can do if you manage to get the Big Metal Unit and all its goodies.

When I first combined all of my supposedly useless Pantaloons I found the Unit itself to absolutely useless anyways (I was a level 23 Swashbuckler without the Use Any Item ability). But, I was intrigued with the Big Metal Rod and all it's cool ammo.

I found each mode of the ammo to be underpowered and suck lots of donkey....

It wasn't until my second time in playing the game (Wanting those uber-levels and a Ring of Gaxx is a really nice goal.) that I accidentally discovered that I could pop my Pulse/Scorcher/Frag ammo into my trusty Firetooth+4 (batteries and String of Gond not included!) and what I got was an absolute MONSTER on my hands!

With up to 3 ways of causing pain upon any poor sap that felt it necessary to try and fight me, I just sat there slack jawed. The combination made for an effective all in one ranged Troll killer as each hit, no matter the ammo, had the lick of fire to it along with the normal damage of the crossbow itself. Needless to say that it made fire control with the Frag ammo even more needed. As my level 40 Swashbuckler (third time playing got me to godliness) was suddenly doing damage* like:

Forda attacks Umber Hulk
Forda does (24) Damage to Umber Hulk
Forda does (3) Damage to Umber Hulk
Forda does (2) Damage to Umber Hulk

That was only with the friggin' Pulse ammo! The frag did about 39 in normal damage with my Sbuckler, and it did that damage to the entire area of effect! The fire damage remained constant at about 2-4 though. This normal damage cheesiness isn't limited to the Pulse and Frag, oh no! I've come to use a "Dance of Death" when I have my Scorcher ammo in place. Normally dolling out a healthy 24-27 normal damage, 2-4 fire damage, and an additional 12-15 fiery breath damage make me smile. Especially when I'm attacking groups and I start to circle them (you gotta love those Grand Master's Armor!), letting the line of fire do the EXACT SAME DAMAGE to anything the stream touches.

Cool, no?

(*All damage inflicted was done by a level 40 Swashbuckler with Bracers of Extraordinary Specialization.)
Itch. It itches to feel you cleave to the song of my mettle,

if not in all the important ways.
