Ideal starter = ?
I've not finished the game yet, I played it 2 times, never got beyond confronting Pharod and he getting killed. The 1st time it was because I had to format, then because I royally screwed up. (I discarded my arm). So I'm currently playing bg 2, but I'd like to start over with Torment. So I'm asking you, what is the best distribution of points? I normally start with 18 INT and WIS and put the reaining 4 points in CHR. I guess you can see how I like to play the game... but is it possible to get more CHR- like in getting it high enough so your chr is high enough to meet all requirements? I think 21 is the highest I found out about - Vhailor, you know. (yeah I use a walkthrough - don't shoot me) I just want to play the game based on nothing more than int, chr, and wis. I like it that way. And comeone, there are some good fighter npc's, eh? Vhailor, Morte, Dak'kon. Thnx.
Believe you can, believe you can't;
either way, you're right.
Playing on pc, GOTY, currently unmodded.

As has been mentioned here, before, there is no ideal configuration. You have no limits to how many levels your character can make; there are areas where you can return regularly to find new, high level foes. So throwing points into Wisdom as a means of gaining a little extra experience for quests doesn't make any difference before the final confrontation.
Similarly, though you'll get fewer options without high INT and WIS, you'll still get all you need to complete the game's quests using combat instead of brains. PS:T is sometimes damned by RPGers as being "too dull, very little combat," but that's because they create high WIS/INT characters which can talk their way out of at least some fights.
Throw your extra points into STR, CON and DEX, and you'll have the makings of a really great fighter. You'll also heal much quicker (though there's a tattoo you can get in the midgame that will speed it even further).
Charisma has a more subtle effect in the game. There are a few situations where you receive more goods or have more conversational options with a higher charisma than otherwise, notably from figures who are intimidated (Pharod) or flattered (Ravel).

To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
To get the best conversation options early in the game (before you leave the Hive), I think you need the following stats:
STR (overridden by other stats)
DEX 13
CON (irrelevant)
INT 18 (if you want to solve every puzzle)
WIS 16
CHA 16
I think a low level character (5th Level or below) can achieve all of those stats by talking to the right people (a strange fellow in a bar comes to mind) and buying tattoos. I still start out with 18 Wisdom and raise it to 19 as soon as I can, though, for the experience bonus, and I use the tattoo that raises Wisdom. (Then I let it increase "naturally" without adding any points to it for the rest of the game, which lets me end up with a 24 or 25).
The optimal stats by the time you finish the game are something like:
STR 21 (if you want to beat everyone else at arm-wrestling)
DEX 18 (if you want to be considered "super-human" by a couple of people)
CON 21 (if you want to regenerate like crazy)
INT 21
WIS 24
CHA 24
Anything less isn't "decent" at all, is it?
