Straight up. I have been unable to get the demo to work, so I cannot try it. I want to, something about Dwarves with Guns, so, I ask this.

What is everyone's call on this game?

I love this game. I would say it successfully pulls off what it set out to do; there's a vast world, interesting characters and subplots, technological gadgets, and magic to boot. The suitably Victorian setting and music is good too. Gameplay is very open ended, as you can choose your skills and attributes based on your tastes. Different/obscure character combinations are possible. The skills also affect the gameplay quite significantly; diplomacy plays a larger role than in, say, the admittedly limited dialogue choices in BG 2. Arcanum's combat system I don't like, however. The Infinity engine's system works much better. Real time is far too hectic and turn based just doesn't seem to do it right. All in all I think you should try it out--it'll eat up quite a bit of your free time.
I would undoubtedly prefer the former...or the latter.

I bought this game, and have tried on several occasions to get into it. I just can't. It has some good points like the character generation, the tech stuff etc, but to me personally, it has too many flaws for me to enjoy it. The interface is extremly clunky, managing inventory is a pain, and the graphics are simply horrid. that, and people have an annoying tendancy to stop in the middle of a door right where I need to get through and not move

It might not matter to a lot of people, but it just happens that everything that turns me off on a game quick are the things I mentioned

I've watched someone play it (So I have no experience gameplay-wise), but one thing that was somewhat annoying were some of the sound effects. The music is excellent for the setting though. I also noted that character development is a lot more flexible/varied/broad than some of the other RPG's hosted on GameBanshee.

I agree with Bloodstalker about the interface. It should have been spread over several pages, like BG2's, but the developers wanted to do it all on one. As a result, it's a mess. I also miss the presence of faces for characters you speak with, as in the IWD, PS:T and BG games. Otherwise, a fun game.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
