Religion did not create hope, it just built hope upon a fear of hell.

There were quite a few religions that existed before Christianity came along, with its concept of hell. They had no equivalent, so these religions offered something else. I don't know if it was hope, but I suggest it might have been understanding. Right and wrong was probably not part of that picture.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

I'm with you there, Tybbs...

...I'm Catholic, although not the zealous type.

And I would be a hypocrite if I say that I live my life right now like a Saint...

*...Religion for me, has given me direction. A path laid out for me to different more paths. I know the path I SHOULD go, but still I have the choice which path to take. Some paths lead to the same destination although others would take longer or shorter...*

*...anyway, I am what I am right now because of religion. The society perpetuated in my country is heavily influenced by religion...*

*...The absence of religion would then be a drastic change of scenario. Our Xmas would be more of Santa Claus and would be too commercialized as opposed to Christmas having Christ as the main theme of the celebration...*

*...Sure, we as humans would have our inherent universal moral standards as DW has put it, but my religion has given us meaning (not just hope) in the kind of life that we choose to live...*

*...I think that even without the religious institutions (not religion), society can still have its own set of moral standards...*

*...having Faith and yet demanding proof is not faith at all. Blind you say? Perhaps only for the people who take religion hook line and sinker without that personal relationship with one's God...*

*...Faith is having this personal relationship and unconditional acceptance as far as my religon is concerned. It is not about the politics involved with all those bishops, cardinals, popes, rites, ceremonies, prayers, etc. Faith is something that you understand by having a feel of it --- you don't analyze faith "intellectually" in order to appreciate for what it really is...*

*...and there are some phenomena that even science and technology can't explain --- simply because they were not meant to be explained that way...*

*...the way I see it, a lot of people get disillusioned with religion because of all the (mis)deeds of self-righteous, so-called-religous people/leaders under the name of their so-called Faith...*

*...as I said before, our country was under Spain for more than 300 years and most of the Spanish friars in the Philippines were not really saintly yet after Spain has left, we still had RC as our religion as we didn't identify God with the Spanish friars --- God is God and the Spaniards have nothing to do with Him being God...*

*...I'd tell my Catholic friends not to diss God coz it's not His fault. --- they were all man-made under the name of what they think God would approve of (on the other hand, it's more like an excuse to justify their selfish motives)...*

Well, for me, there is no such thing as right and wrong. There is only for yourself (egoistic) and for the rest(utilitarian) both which have been synonimed by the words right and wrong.

If god created man in his image and our fathers failed, what does that tell you about god.

Sorry bout the fightclub line but i am drunk and horribly anti religon(religous establisment likemah said)

I find people using faith to guide thier lives a crutch, much like i use herb and beer to get me through crappy days. hey use the euphoric feeling of happinessthrough faith to grant themselves enlightenment.

I typed this next line ten times... each time i came out like a prick...maube cause Im loaded maube cause im honest.. but i dont wanna get banend so ~!
