Whoa! I didn't expect that!
Not really knowing what I was doing I saunter into Degrodel's House in the NW section of the city. I was just looking to see what was there. Just adventuring around. Suddenly, here come the Battle Horrors, the Doom Guards, the Invisible Stalkers and Helmed Horrors. Even though all my group members are level 7 and armed with magic weapons I got my butt kicked.
I tried a few strategies, such as throwing in fireballs, loosing monsters and summoned dead, and nothing worked. I think that at most I killed one Doom Guard before my character was wiped out.
Any ideas for approaching Degrodel's House?

Use every buff you have at your disposal. Haste your entire party, do things like Chant, Bless, Defensive Harmony, anything that will give you an edge. When you go in, don't just let your party attack whoever they feel like - pause and assign each of your fighters to one of the nasties while your mages throw everything they've got at them. This is a VERY hard fight, I had to do it many times, and being the powergamer I am I had all the best equipment anyway...
EDIT - Highlight for Spoiler:
There is a very good incentive for cleaning out the place, and that is getting the quest for the Helm of Balduran. Degrodel will tell you exactly what to do, but be aware that if you go back and give it to him he'll run off. I had this down to a fine art, my party would surround him and hack at him before he could disappear, giving me the XP for giving him the helm, XP for killing him and a very nice hat

I always stay near the entrance, so if a character received too much damage, I can take him/her outside. Lots of summoned monsters means it's too crowded to run towards exit in time from back of the room. Drink any enhancement potions, ie. strength and defence, you have (don't be stingy!) and always haste. Potion of Regeneration can be helpful as well.

Whew! That was a fight! I hasted Dynahier (gave her the Boots of Speed), and had her rush into the house to use a wand of fire a couple of times. By then the monsters were alerted to the point where they waited for her near the door entrance, so I didn't send her in a third time.
Instead, I armed my character with a large shield +1 and a long sword +1, gave Minsc a medium shield +1 and a long sword +2, and Kivan had a medium shield and bastard sword +1. I blessed the group and had them drink strength potions. Then I entered the house.
Swords started flashing. Minsc took some serious damage and had to drink a health potion. Ditto for Kivan and my character. I started out one on one, but then switched to a massed attack on each monster.
Finally (emphasize finally) I dropped the monsters one by one. At that point something in the back of my mind screamed SAVE NOW! I went on to speak to Degrodel. After leaving him my character was accosted by a Battle Horror coming from one of the side rooms. I remembered an earlier game in which I failed to save. It was at the point where I left Degrodel that the remaining Battle Horror jumped my main character and killed him. I had to restart the game from a point before the big battle.
This time I killed him. Whew!
