What has happened to my Hotmail account?

Post by oki101 »

Ok, so I use Hotmail.

I know, I know, don`t laugh.

But lately I have gotten some strange mails. The last 3 days there has been close to 200 mails all saying the same, that this mail has been returned due to unknown adresses. They are all going to AOL users from my adress and they all have something about winning a free trip to somewhere.

Now, I haven`t sent these mails so I`m wondering how someone could send mails from my account. Has it been hacked? :( :( Or are there some other explanations.

Should I move all my mails to another account or what do you say?

@Oki, sounds like someone is spoofing your email address (sending fake messages under your name). There's not really much you can do about it, except maybe send an email to the hotmail postmaster explaining the situation. They may be able to help, but not likely.

I've had to move to several different email providers over the years as incoming spam builds up to a point where it's not manageable, but fortuantely haven't had this one happen.

Just my two cents on free mail accounts here :

Most of free on-line email will get SPAM mail, yet Yahoo recently develop a feature which enable you to report the spam posts to the administator.

Either way it's all same junk mail over again, I used to have around 6 accounts of free on-line email back on my first surfing time. Nowadays I stick with Yahoo - not because of any particular feature it's just it has certain nostalgic thing :)

BTW you can reduce the junk mail by using filter feature on any online mail. Just type in the keyword and select the optyion to deliver it into trash can. The trash can folder suppose to be cleaned every day :)
I'm not dead yet :D :p
