Good holiday gift sites (no spam)

Good gift sites

I seem to be doing a lot of solstice-gift-stuff thinking, today. I suspect it's dementia. There's no other good reason to consider the holidays before December, greedy merchants notwithstanding.

Still--

I thought we might share some good gift-buying sites here, in this thread. You know, not the usual items, but distinctive, classy and original gifts.

So here are a few contributions of mine to start things off:

This site, run by a Russian chest enthusiast and entrepeneur, contains hundreds of locally made chess sets you can buy.

This is a good website for inexpensive but attractive jewelry made in Patagonia.

Add your own!

Berkshire Record Outlet is the cheapest source by far for quality classical CDs. I only wish there was anything remotely as inexpensive for international folk music.

Novica is an import/exporter with a bit of a difference. They appear to focus on individual artisans, and try to provide quotes from each one about their own work. There's nothing anonymous, here, which gives it less of a "cheap slave labor in some unnamed third world country" feel. I've just purchased a couple of things for my wife on the site, and can testify that they also tell you by email when each item is being shipped, and how long it will take.

Guys, if you want to spam, please do it elsewhere. This topic is meant to provide genuine assistance to people looking for good stuff this holiday season. Thanks. :)

Bump! I'm almost inclined to make this one sticky, since it would help us all with the season approaching, but then that could be a justification for sticki-izing nearly anything.

This looks pretty cool, tho I think most people here would rather have their spouses get them one than the other way around
;) Pull the old trick of leaving the window open and wandering off... To bad I spend all my money on computer games, can't get anything there...
If I asked, would you answer? Its your problem. Its a deep, deep problem. I have no way to ask about that... I have no elegant way of stepping into your heart without tracking in filth. So I will wait. Someday, when you want to tell me, tell me then. -Bleach

@Tyb, that's a pretty good one. This is a neat site I've just found for some inexpensive but really attractive jewelry you can get--from Patagonia, down at the southern tip of Argentina. :D

Okay: I asked Buck, and he agreed we could make this a sticky thread until after the approaching holidays. So if you know of an unusual or really good gift site, please put a link to it, here.

And no spam, please, or sites advertising telephones shaped like Bart Simpson's head. Thank you. :)

Genuine Austrian specialities -> Julius Meinl - Vienna .

Nothing outstanding - at least in MY opinion - but it's certainly something you won't get every day - outside of Vienna , that is.... ;) :D ..

And of course - excuse my patriotic pride for a moment ->
The World of Swarovski
(Online-Shop included )

No worries,

Nothing to forgive. If you know a regional or national specialty, by all means, post it. And thanks for the pair of links. :)

Speaking of more gift links, here's one that leads to an interesting Russian guy who merchandises hundreds of different hand-carved chess sets. There's plenty of interesting stuff, up there. Can't say I've used him, yet, but I've watched his site over the last two years, and I hope to get something from it, soon.

In that case I have two more links - this time for all the chocolate junkies out there....

Demel - k.u.k. Hofzuckerbäckerei

and

Hotel Sacher, Vienna

No worries, just watch your weight... ;) :)

Gods, the home of the famed Sacher torte! Do you realize that just looking at that, and Demel's, raised my cholesterol? Great stuff, truly. :D

Since all the other gift threads are up, I thought I'd give this one a bump.

It could be stickied again, but that's up to fable. :)

While on the subject of gifts. http://www.daprints.com is a very good place to buy rare art from. It's the prints site from the deviantart network for those of you who didn't know.

I saw posted in another thread: http://www.iwantoneofthose.com By their own words, it's a site about gadgets and gizmos ;)

Good idea, @Vicsun. It was stickied last holiday season, then allowed to slide. I've pinned it to the top, again.
