ok...classical music..hmm. well...there's too much of it to mention.

so...i'll recommend:

cantara, cantara II, and cantara III (compilation cds)

on the label: zoomshot/angelwings.

(and there's a IV, but i still don't have it...*whine*)

A good place to buy classical CDs is at the Berkshire Record Outlet. They have a huge selection of cutouts and overruns from all the major and many minor labels; and when a label goes bust, its output shows up first, there. Nearly everything is priced at $5.98 or less, and originally sold for $16.98 or more. I've purchased plenty from 'em. They're well worth it.

BTW, does anyone know of a classical artist who's music sounds like the FoTR soundtrack (the battle parts)?

I am a big fan of movie soundtracks, so I can recommend something you might like in that area.

Allan Silvestri's score for The Mummy returns has parts that sound a lot like FoTR. Especialy track #6 (Evy's kidnapping)

You mentioned the Gladiator soundtrack so here's something co-written by the same person (Hans Zimmer)- The Rock Soundtrack.
It is IMO the best action soundtrack out there- it's of the few CD's that I can just put on whenever I want, without getting sick of it. Here's the Amazon.com page, which has some samples.

The Soundtracks to Indiana Jones 1 or 3 are full of great adventure cues. #2 is really dark if you wanted that.

If you can find it, Erich Wolfgang Korngold's score to 'The Adventures of Robin Hood' is one of the best adventure soundtracks as well.

Episode 1: The Phantom Menace is one of the very best soundracks I own. I'd get it just for Duel of the fates, which sounds like exactly what you're looking for.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned Cusco or Forbidden Forrest yet, but while it may not be "classical" music it is instrumental, and it is very relaxing, and sometimes envigorating at the same time. Cusco focuses on some of the South American classical music styles, while Forbidden Forrest is more like a combination between Cusco, classical music, and Baldurs Gate tunes, IIRC. So both bands are very good. Cusco is obtained pretty easily, but Im sure Forbidden Forrest is a hard find...
