A friend of mine is going to Toronto with her husband next weekend. She is looking for suggestions for dining, places to see, etc....

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Two places I recommend:

At the top of the Toronto Dominion Tower is a restaurant called Canoe. It is a fairly fancy place, but the prices really aren't that bad and the food is fantastic. My wife and I ate there for about $75 Canadian (~$50 USD when I was there) with food only, no drinks. It has a wonderful view of the lake and the rest of the city. Absolutely top notch.

If you like sushi, there is a wonderful hole-in-the-wall sushi bar near the intersection of Bloor Street West and Yonge Street called Japan Deli; it's actually on Balmuto Street. The food is very good and best of all, inexpensive. They also have tempura, noodles and teriyaki.

If you're into sightseeing and like history, two places I recommend are Casa Loma and the Royal Ontario Museum.

Another thing about Toronto that amazed me: it was the first city I have ever been to where the taxi drivers did not scare me to death.

I absolutely suggest they go the ROM (Royal Ontario Museum), like HLD suggested. CN Tower wouldn't be a bad idea, either. Great view.

Even though I live in Toronto, I don't really have any ideas. (I have no life, and I'm 15).

Kensington Market, the Chinese District. One of the most facinating places in TO. Also, check out a few places along Yonge and Bloor, and even University.

Catch a Maple Leaf game if they're interested in sports (if there's even a game on).

The Annex is a funky sort of neighbourhood worth visiting...and all the other places that have been suggested here are definitely ideas to check out

The Science Centre is pretty cool as well... Or at least my recollections of it are that it is well done... others who have been there more recently than I may have better information.

If your friend has the time for day trips and likes Shakesperean theatre she might also want to consider a drive to Stratford-upon-Avon. Another possibility would be a tour around the Niagara-On-The-Lake wine area.

One warning though: The underground mall is pretty cool but downtown basically shuts down at 6:00 pm when everyone goes home, so do whatever you want to do downtown during the day.

The Second City Comedy Club is also good for a few laughs.

Thanks for the help. I had told my friend about dinner at Canoe, and the cost (just food, no drinks), she laughed and said, "Well, we will double that price" She is a Wisconsin girl, and drinking is in her blood....

I wonder if that is why we are friends???

The mall you speak of it the Eaton's Centre. It's not abad mall, and the underground portion of it stretche all along the subway network... It's kind've cool.

also, straford would be a greatidea. Christopher Plummer is Playing King Lear the next couple of months!

I don't know what the conversion is right now, but when I was there about a year and a half ago, it was $1 USD to $1.56 CAD, so she should be able to drink a lot for less.

It was the first city I had ever been to where I didn't have to constantly watch over my shoulder. It's got a nice night-life, too.

If I told her the exhange rate, I would just confuse her, so I'll stick with "you should be able to drink a lot for less"

Me neither...heh, except maybe Zakynthos, but that had more to do with the fact that the roads are not that well lit, they don't believe in pavements, and the drivers use all of the road

This *is* also true of Canadian cities (and anywhere else) as well though.......
