enemies cheat with imprisonment

Post by MasterDarkNinja »

has anyone else noticed how that enemies cheat with imprisonment? look at the spell's description closer in books.
imprisonment is supposed to take 9 casting rounds to cast but the demi lich's that have imprisonement cast it right away but they do wait like 5 seconds before casting it again.
imprisonment is also supposed to only work if your standing right next to your target when you cast it (which should make it so easy to interupt) but try this when fighting the demi lich's, I had just a wizard left in the fight against kangaxx and I was at the middle left area of the map and I took just one step to left and was still far away from the demi lich but able to see him (he was not anywhere near standing next to me) and then he casts imprisonment right away and the moment I see him he fires imprisonment at me and I'm defeated.
this spell isn't just one way that the computer cheats with it, it's two ways, before the 4th fight in TOB against the final boss I tried to imprison that fallen planter guy (red angel) while timestop was on, I cast the spell and ran. then timestop wore off, I couldn't see what happened since no one was close enough, next I moved in my close up fighters and suddenly I see the fallen planetar firing arrows at me and no other enemy is missing there (so I couldn't have accidently imprisoned the wrong one).
I understand making boss enemies that say something after you beat them be immune to imprisonment but making that fallen planetar with no lines once so ever immune to imprisonment is just plain crazy.
has anyone else noticed other spells that the computer cheats with or spells that have a false description?

Kangaxx does not use Imprisonment.
*gasp*

He uses a special ability called "Trap the Soul", which is almost identical to Imprisonment, but has a casting time of 1 and it's ranged. ;)

About the Fallen Solar - did you have Ascension installed when you fought him?

I've never heard of Ascension but I assume that it's some patch for BG2, I installed just one patch to fix bugs made in TOB and that's it.
also I'm quiet certain that when I used ctrl + q on Kangaxx that it was called imprisonment and that it says imprisonment when he casts it, Kangaxx is too hard for just SOA though since just how many +4 or higher weapons are there? only the holy sword that only paladins can use that I can think of, that and the slayer is the only way to do damage to him.
I did find out that Kangaxx has an invisible ring on him called something like "absolute immunity" and it says "this item makes Kangaxx immune to almost anything physical attacks and magical attacks. you can imprison the demi lich though (get him to imprison himself).

Ascension is a Mod for ToB.

About Kangaxx... There are TONS of thread about him, just look through them.
Alternatively, visit this wonderful site - it contains everything you need to know about Kangaxx.
Kudos for Dundee Slaytern for making him. :)

Yes, the game designers called it imprisonment, but it's actually a modification of the spell. Kangaxx is supposed to be very challenging and dangerous (some have even argued that he's actually a bit too easy and doesn't reflect a true demi-lich's capabilities). As for defeating him, here is another link. ;)

I've beaten him plenty of times before (I stated the weaons)... oh I guess imprisonment immunity is what I didn't state... well I've still beaten him plenty of times. I started this topic to see if anyone else notices how enemies cheat with spells and I used Kangaxx as an example.

I've noticed some other enemies (most notably other liches, with Sola Mod installed) can cast imprisonment from far away. It seems that you only need to be in touch range for a moment, doesn't matter if they are still casting spell. Then even if you get away, they sometimes fling the spell over to you. Very annoying

This is true for any of the "touch" spells, not just Imprisonment. If you watch your own clerics/mages more carefully, you'll notice the same also holds true for them whenever they cast similar spells, so it balances out, IMO. The demi-lich's "Imprisonment" is a special case however - it is supposed to be ranged - the developers should have named it something else, like "Trap the Soul", but they didn't.

yes they should of

okay both of these quotes don't go together, I'm quiet certain that Kangaxx's imprisonment is called imprisonment since I've taken him over myself and that is what it was called, also it says imprisonment when he uses the spell.

I think that the first quote is correct, Kangaxx has a special ability with unlimited or very many charges. This is a ranged imprisonment with a very short casting time. BW didn't change the name as it is very similar to imprisonment in nature and there are also some other spells that have been modified like this IIRC. Can't remember which though

OK, i just checked with the Infinity Explorer.
This is Imprisonmanet part of (Improved!) Kangaxx's script:
IF
OR(7)
See(Player1)
See(Player2)
See(Player3)
See(NearestEnemyOf(Myself))
See(Player4)
See(Player5)
See(Player6)
THEN
RESPONSE #300
ForceSpell(LastSeenBy(Myself),DEMILICH_TRAP_SOUL)
RESPONSE #100
ForceSpell(Myself,WIZARD_MORDENKAINENS_SWORD)
RESPONSE #100
ForceSpell(Myself,DEMILICH_DEATH)
RESPONSE #100
ForceSpell(LastSeenBy(Myself),WIZARD_ABI_DALZIMS_HORRID_WILTING)
END
As you can see, Imprisonment is not mentioned.
He uses a special spell called DEMILICH_TRAP_SOUL.
The original Kangaxx used it, too.

However, DEMILICH_TRAP_SOUL's in-game name is indeed Imprisonment. :)

I'm guessing, but maybe the designers stuck with Kangaxx 'imprisoning' in order to avoid confusion with regard to what spell should be cast in order to free any imprisoned characters. You see someone 'imprisoned' by Kang, you then know to cast freedom to get 'em back.

okay if kangaxx's spell is called "trap the soul" then tell me something.... why does the body disappear? you can act normally without a soul, you do it in SOA so how can traping the soul harm you currently in the fight? it can hurt you in the long run yes but not in the fight logically....

Alson how did you know about that programing in kangaxx?.
