Am I stuck? (possible spoiler)

I am currently in Chp. 3 with a ranger/rogue. I was looking for the Uthgardt Elk Tribe leader and found his door to his cave. I spoke with the guard (who was blue) and he suddenly turned red and attacked. I killed him off and then later (waaay after I had saved) I found the orc cave which had the Elk Tribe priest. He gave me the feather of peace and then said to go the tribe's door and the dude would let me in. Um...I killed him. I tried messing with the door but I get the standard "That door won't open unless you get a special key" and I can't bash it.

Did I just screw up royally for that quest? I don't think it's part of the main quest, but I was trying to complete everything that was thrown at me.

Jup, pretty sure. Guess you have to reload from an OLD save. Bad luck.

The gaurd you, Um... killed has the key and when he died your key turned into fairy dust and blew away.
