Tort reform (Incredulity allowed but no SPAM please)

Post by BaronTx »

I think I heard something this morning regarding a class action lawsuit against McDonalds. Dunno for sure, I was still in the fog of early morning, but it seems to have gone something like this:
Several parents are involved in a lawsuit against McDonalds because their children are obese????!!!!!!!!!!!!

Has anybody heard of this? And if its true what do you think? My knee-jerk reaction is, whatever happened to parental responsability. The next was, why would any court ever allow a suit like this? It seems to be a common sense issue.

Some guy in California was suing McDonald's, Burger King and Wendy's because their "super-sized" value meals caused him to gain wait and they didn't warn him in advance.

We live in a land that denies personal responsibility. Remember that someone sued McDonald's and won to the tune of $2 million (later reduced by an appellate judge) because she was driving her car while drinking their coffee and when she spilled it on herself, it scalded her. She said that McDonald's should have warned her that the coffee was hot and a jury agreed. I don't know about you, but every cup of coffee I've ever had was hot and I didn't need any warning label to tell me so, but apparently there are people out there (and ambulance-chasing lawyers who follow those people) who do need protection from their own stupidity.

I agree, but...it does anger me that the fast-food restaurants make no effort to serve healthier food. They don't offer veggie burgers at most of their chains. The best deal is to buy their value meals, and they never have a value meal that is low calorie. Why can't McDeath sell a grilled chicken sandwich with low-fat mayo and a side salad? If you buy them separately, it ends up costing around 7-8 bucks. Ah well, that's why I don't go to those places anymore.

@ Voodoodali

There are several choices available to all of us. It is up to each individual to make an informed choice. IMO If McDonalds wants to sell veggie burgers or marbled beef steaks smothered in cheese that is their choice. Your choice is to purchase it or go to another establishment.
I don't mean to sound rude or uncaring, but if a restaurant doesn't serve what you want or like, go to a place that does. If enough people agree with you and exercise the same choice, sooner or later the original establishment you went to will start serving the items in demand.
