Improved Ilyich

Post by gnomethingy »

Uhhh.. This mod is demented, I say..

I picked up yoshimo and a load of bits before coming back to kill them,

Lured out the glabrezu and killed it with yoshi's traps and some spells (Had to get lucky on the mr side) but imoen had stoneskins and mirror image up tanking it so it didnt hurt anyone..

I cast improved invisibility on minsc with imoen and used him to give me los,

Then I had imoen and my sorc stack about seven webs, then imoen cast the three fireballs I had her memorized, +my sorc cast the four fireballs he had..

Then I summoned four spiders which didnt get held (Duh) and after the spiders finally died it was pretty much over.. the only tricky thing was when the golem came out I had to run minsc back to Ilyich's corpse and grab his hammer and club to kill it

The only gripe I have with this mod is the items and exp up for grabs..

I mean.. It wasnt hard but from an rp perspective it was just over the top, mencars band and Tarnor the hatchetmans group had nothing on them, and there so much latter in the game

Doesnt anyone else think its over the top?

Since when hasn't Wes been over the top? :)

Maybe improved Mencar and improved party under the temple district are on the way...

Wes (or 'Les') justified it by saying a top notch mage like Irenicus should have some decent hired help instead of groups of goblins etc. I understand what you mean about game balance though (iirc +3 weapons are up for grabs) but played with all the other improved things, the game gets considerably harder.

I think that mod has been designed specifically for the players that find everything else "too easy".

Maybe someday I will become one of them too and try it.

Even worse, maybe I'll find it easy too...
Last time I played a Sorc, I picked up "Enchanted Weapon" and had all party eqipped with +3 stuff starting from day 1.
With Minsc double wielding maces ;)
Where we came from, we don't know
Where we're going.... (even worse)
And about who we could be, we actually have trouble in clearly defining the term "to be" in the first place...

Im not really complaining about the mod being to hard, becouse it simply isnt, nothing in the game is hard.. Period

Becouse there are three ways of doing things..

*Charge* ... Do this to something hard and you die alot

*Buff and Charge* ... This can win you the game comfortably without hardness mods on

*Cheese* - Cheese kills all, without you taking a point of damage.. Its horrible overkill and ruins the game utterly

No mod, can be a challenge for somone using advanced cheese but they try.. and they fail, cancelling out any *fun* method of gameplay in the process..

Thats the point im making..

And if you dont beleive they can be beaten easily, try my cheesy strat...

This mod has earned a place in my heart in the same way Tashia and Kelsey have..

Ie.. Romance Tashia for extra amulets of power etc..

Kill kelsey for his cloak...

Kill ilyich for the club+3, unique hammer, Cloak of protection and Full plate mail

Its no more than that more me.. A way of getting extra items / money / exp with no challenge without cheating

So ends my rant

Btw.. For the above reason, its still a good mod

Why would you consider your strategy cheesy? Using an invisible scout for los, followed by area disabler and area damage spells sounds like a clever and well executed tactic to me.

Stand there and do nothing because you hurled about 3 webs at them? When I played, I attempted to draw one out at a time...as soon as my first hostile act occured, the whole lot of em rushed me where my main group was hiding -- like the IWD call to arms or like the beholders do with Xyx's improved AI.
b) you dont get touched

Try just walking up to them then ;)

Another b? :D In the latest version of the mod, apparently resting has become more difficult. The whole resting in a hostile dungeon thing is a fault with BG2 in general though.

Ive got the latest version.. I got it today, and it took me all of two minutes to work out how to kill them without getting touched,

Whatever, I just though it was very funny reading the testimonials

"When I saw the fallen Diva, I uninstalled!!!"

You little moonce, I killed that diva with traps for more exp.. Stop being gay people, if it moves.. you can kill it, never forget that

Yes well, for mere mortals like myself I found it pretty difficult...no doubt you've waltzed through Ascension, improved Irenicus etc? As Serje says:

Well, theres something known as a Mincer, which is like somone who is incredibly squemish and a poonce is like a coward,

a Moonce is both

I won't pick that mod for the simple reason that it will probably
force more than a rest in Irenicus' Dungeon.
And of course, I don't rest in dungeons...

To fight glabrezu's in Irenicus's Dungeon!, that's madness! You must be uber super killer beasts! I couldn't fight a rat in Irenicus's Dungeon, without Minsc at least being badly wounded.

You can try casting protection from evil on everyone and the Glabrezu completely ignores you. You can then smack everyone else (nice touch with the Russian names there) and then smack the Glabrezu while it's wiggling its wings doing nothing.

It's still a pretty formidable challenge with no proper equipment.

LOL, I really like the 'classic blunders' -- cold damage and fatigue.

'Never start a land war in Asia' :D I think Wes is a big fan of the 'Princess Bride'.
