hmm..in the books, one of Drizzt's friends had the Taulmaril bow...its not in the game?

You're talking about Cattie-Brie's bow, which can in fact be aquired if you attack Drizzt and his friends when you meet them. However, you'll soon loose the bow again when one of the Harpell mages spawn in and take all the Drizzt-loot from you. So there really is no reason to provoke a fight with Drizzt (contrary to BG1).
There is two bows with close resemblance to Taulmaril, though. First you can get Tancheron's Bow early on by doing the druid grove quest and then visit one of the merchants in Trademeet (buy or steal it). Then you have the Short Bow of Gesen on a later stage.
