Trouble with ToB (and probably Solaufein) - Possible Spoilers!

Post by khimaira »

Everything just fine until ToB starts. Every dialogues are messy and they are from elsewhere. For example, when that Bhaals Spawn wench comes and decides to kill me, the dialogue is from that part where Kelsey says I love you. I think so.

Everythings REALLY messed up and I'll soon be BALD if I can't get it to work properly.

I've installed Solaufein (*drools*) and the yankee-Kelsey, but I'm quite sure I uninstalled him. I've got the European ToB and I've installed the patch for it... But I'm quite sure it's about Sola or Kelsey, because almost every messed up dialogue is about Solaufein and a few are about Kelsey.

What can I do? Where can I find patches or updates?

kelsay was a recently patch thing made. and Solaufein is some added fighter I know.
assuming you don't mean Keldorn by Kelsay then the Kelsay patch is probably messing up BG2 (thank goodness I didn't trust that patch and didn't download it) I never bother to download and install patches that add party members that can join you into the game. one of those 2 add ons probably messed it up, uninstall both Kelsay and Solaufein and my guess is that it'll work.
Remember, being Evil in Baldur's Gate 2 is VERY fun...

Have you tried to ask for help at Kelsey's (Forgotten Wars) site?
If you need serious technical support, jcompton is THE guy who can save you... (You can find the link in all of his posts in this forum and in BG2)...

Good luck ;)
Where we came from, we don't know
Where we're going.... (even worse)
And about who we could be, we actually have trouble in clearly defining the term "to be" in the first place...

I am having the same problem, just in SOA. It worked fine before I installed the Patch (to the game).

Despite MasterDarkNinja's rather unjustified ominous comments, neither Kelsey nor Solaufein (nor the two together) should damage your install, and several thousands of people could tell you so.

Mikael: installing the Bioware patch over the mods IS your problem. Mod documentation very clearly states that you should have the Bioware patch installed BEFORE the mods. The Bioware patch writes over all of the dialogue in the game--including that added by mods. That is your problem.

Khimaira: I suspect that you've also done something that replaced your dialog.tlk file at some point, like applying the patch or installing Throne of Bhaal after mods were in place. Can you give us the history of exactly what you've installed and when?

I take precautions with stuff like that. and I admit to not being that good with technical problems but I will say what I think could possibly be a problem to try to help others.

Oh man. Well, I'll try to remember...

First I installed - ofcourse - Soa. I installed the patch to it, then the Bonus Mercants . Then came Kelsey and when I didn't like him SO much, I decided to try Solaufein. So then I had both of them installed at the same time.
When I was with my maincharacter and Solaufein in the gang in... umm... Suldanesselar [?] I installed ToB. I Also installed the non-cd-crack [no problems with that, it has worked before without any problems before] and then the ToB patch.
Everything went just CRAZY when I reached ToB in the game.

So is that it? I should have installed ToB and such BEFORE I install Kelsey/Solaufein? *curses*

Yes. All of Bioware's alterations to the game (TOB, and the SOA or TOB patches) must be installed before ANY mods. When you apply TOB or their patches, it screws things up. Sorry, but there's nothing in the world we can do about that.

It doesn't help others when you say "thank goodness I didn't trust that patch and didn't download it." It tells them that it is not "trustworthy" and that is not true.

The players having problems in this thread are having problems because one installed TOB over his modded installation, and the other installed the Bioware patch over his modded installation. That's not the fault of any single mod, it's just what happens, and it is why mod documentation tells you to have installed SOA/TOB and the latest Bioware patch BEFORE you install the mods.

We have done everything we can to help people avoid those problems.

Oh well. Thank you all, you've been a great help. Let's see, if I could re-install EVERYTHING in the right order.
