Swiss police in action

Post by CM »

Well i just came to work and i was at the train station and for the first time in 3 years saw how much Switzerland is a police state. I was walking down a ramp where an African male was 3 steps infront of me. All of a sudden this new guy zooms past me and grabs and shows the African male a badge, in the mean while a man infront of him turns around, stops and grabs the man lightly buy the elbow and compells him to move where he is going. After which a lady moves out from a coner and covers the rear. So the two guys are flanking him and the girl at the back. The surprising thing is that all this happened in the space of less than 30 seconds and all were in plain clothes.

Anyway i thougt it was an interesting point of discussion, what weird things have you seen happen at a train station, airport or any other public place.

Another story is i saw a cat fight between 2 drunk females. Now that was funny. But no clothes were ripped off that is the sad part :D

I must be missing something. Why does arresting somebody in the fashion you describe make a nation a "police state?" Do you know for a fact that the person in front of you wasn't armed? And are you saying that they wouldn't have arrested him this way if he wasn't "African" (whatever that means--I've known Afrikaaners who were Africans)? If so, please explain how. :)

The African comment was describing his ethnicity. I was in no way making a remark to an attempt at racism. I could have said a black man was arrested, but that wouldnt haven been acceptable. Mostly likely be accused of being callous and insensitive again, or insult another group of people.

Well from what i saw of the guy infront of me, they werent exactly following the guy or staking him out as such. The guy infront turned after the guy with the badge showed up. It was an impression i got that there were 3 undercover cops at the train station just for the sake of security. Not that they would be following the guy. If they were following the guy why pick him up in the train station, which is a very crowded area. Why not before or afterwords?

Also the police state comment is because the Swiss after 10 pm have heavily armed secuirty guards around all the train stations and airports in Switzerland. This isnt a new thing rather something they have had for years now. Also the Swiss have no crime rate whatsoever. To top that off, there are cameras located openly and hidden on the highways and in cities. On the highways for security, but there are a couple in geneva everybody can see.

This is actually something that surprised be about Europe. New Zealand cities have very few, if any, security cameras monitoring the streets, and our police are not armed at all. London seemed excessively policed compared to what I'm used to seeing.

Then you would be surprised about Switzerland. In Bern the capital they have 2 guards paired off with a dog per group. each carries a hand gun a baton and a couple of rounds of ammo. And man are these guys though. Wel built, buff and they look like a truck couldnt stop them. Zurich has even stronger security.
The UK has alot of security as well, but they are obvious with the black uniform and such. Here since every citizen is required to do military service, there are alot of people who could double easily as cops and normal civilains.

Weird stuff at train stations?

Maybe your country is very different, but where I come from the word 'weird' and 'train station' are synonomus (This isnt a good thing)

let me see, allow me to probe through my memory for a moment and dredge up some stuff...

No, nothing weird.. Though I have been unlucky enough to see somone jump in front of a train (This seems to be a popular method of suicide, my uncle sees it alot as he works for city rail, risk managment) But I was only five or so, so I didnt really know what was going on and It didnt hassle me much

I can think of something very, very odd.. Not long after I came back to sydney, I saw this guy lying on the platform and I though he might be dead or something, becouse he was very well dressed (Suited, like) and had a breifcase.. I went over to him and gave him a shove with my foot, and it turned out he was just asleep, he got reall pissed off.. I though it was incredibly weird, I mean, He obvoisly wasnt homeless or anything.. Very odd indeed but thats cities ie, crap.

Heck, the only time ive ever seen a cop at the station is on new years eve, there not very common over here.. Though, with there stupid tv adds they would make you think there under every rock, but its a straigh up filthy lie

One of my cousins, and all his friends have been robbed numerous times at the same station.. Somone was stabbed to death there, people sell drugs etc (Its actually a very expensive suburb, not exactly ghetto material) And still.. No police, lucky to see one a week there, theres even a station less than a Kilometre down the street

Ok.. Theres my train station rant
-->Instert cool sig here<--

Not too much related to the topic- except by the train station(but I think worth mention).

Happens to me in a subway-train station.

I use to wait for the train in the left corner of the station. When I reach the station there was nobody elsewhere, just about 15 teenagers in the left corner(my corner). I go to there, sudenly I perceive all of them were student/pacients of an institute for deaf-dumb(sorry I don't know the right word in english, they were unable to listen and speak). They were "shaking" their hands fastly in that hand-signal language they use, some were even expresing gesticulation of fun and laught(but with no sound). In the station there were only them and me, and me, the only who was able to speak and listen became turned into a deaf-dumb, since I was the only there who was, in reality, unable to express myself to them, and unable to understand them. They turn me into a deaf-dumb, the silence I was feeling there was incredible.

Unhapply they do not perceived, but I feel proud for them, at that moment, for what they had reached/obtained with/against me.
[Sorry about my English]

Wierd

Police state? No. Gang state? maybe...

Trains? No. Buses... yes.

I live in southern california and I cant tell you how many times I've been through Hawain Gardens (Aint no Hawaii and aint no gardens there). Or Inglewood, or Compton or etc etc names you might know. Many others you dont, It's not that the police are all around its that thier always suspicious of everything and anything.

Im not going anywhere with this except that I hate the Torrance PD because man thier cruel (they pepper sprayed my friends while they were calmly sitting on a curb waiting for the cops to talk to them)... but then again what else is new.

Public places are evil. I avoid them as much as possible. And when Im actually in public places, I dont pay attention to the surroundings too often.
“Caw, Caw!” The call of the wild calls you. Are you listening? Do you dare challenge their power? Do you dare invade? Nature will always triumph in the end.

Oh! Well, I'd hate to live in a nation whose elected officials took the protection of their citizens seriously. Clearly, democratic Switzerland is a police state. :D

Mind, I'm not saying I'd be able to easily embrace the Swiss way of life. But dismissing an entire culture as a "police state" because the state in fact does just what its voters tell 'em to do about security seems a bit--curious. ;)
