New game soon

Post by tasteslikechick »

Is there a rumor area here? I just heard of a new game, looks pretty cool, and they are looking for input from gamers. Might be worth a look.

There are plenty of games in dev that never make it. Somewhere along the line, lack of funds, outside interest, and the real world crowd 'em out. This is one of th more interesting strategy/RPG games I've seen in dev from a small company in a while, but the graphics are pretty pitiful.

Owch

Oops. I thought the graphics comment was directed at us...maybe it was....either way, the below post stands.....sorry.

Ok, I'll take the graphics hit without going off. Believe it or not, there is so much more than JUST graphics, that we have'nt really made that a priority. The reasoning behind that? Well, many of those games you've seen in development in the past, like Dawn (in my opinion), were just graphics.....meaning someone that was good with 3D Studio made awesome pics, then posted them somewhere, and people really thought THAT was EXACTLY what the game was going to look like. Reality? They had no game engine......they had no gamecode......they had no world-building tools......they were just one guy with an artistic talent......and ten really cool pictures......

Take a look at our limited graphics again. You may notice that in some cases there are 3 different views of the same character, or they are in a weird "modeling" pose. Thats because these are actually modeled player characters, that you will see in 3D. Not just cool rendered pics. We could do that I suppose, but thats pretty dishonest in my opinion.

As far as world graphics, we could render some awesome landscapes too, but 3D max isnt going to be our game engine. It would'nt be a "real" representation of what the game will look like. We are currently looking into changing our NDA (non-disclosure agreement) with our game engine team, so we can give you gamers some REAL screenshots from the initial builds. I really had no idea how important that was to you folks.

As I cruise the web searching for other mmorpg's, I cant help but notice how many of them can be compared, graphically, to what I would call a mid to high end Ultima Online. Or the many that appear to be using the engine used by Tribes. They are fine, and I have played and loved many of them. But, it's time to move on, and thats what we are doing.

And yes, I am involved with them. No intention of being sneaky, just trying to get some gamers to hit the site, and maybe check the forums and do some constructive criticism. We want you guys to be involved, and be interested. After all, YOU will be playing it, and without YOU, all we have is a bunch of cool grapics.......

Hope to see you all there!

Well, but you *are* being sneaky, though you claim you aren't. You entered this forum, and instead of announcing your affiliations first, tried to raise interest in your product-in-dev by making it sound like you were a fascinated outside party. Frankly, that doesn't cut it.

Please don't try to publicize your game in this fashion, here. Read the forum rules at http://www.gamebanshee.com/sitefeatures/forumrules.php especially #4, which deals with how you advertise your own website or those you're involved in. The site owner takes the rules seriously, and we all do--so if you want to see this thread remain on the board, you may want to change your tactics. :)

done

Well put. And done. Thanks.
I really was'nt attempting to be sneaky, and I was recently asked to get involved. Believe it or not, I am a skeptic, even concerning Rift, and did'nt want to get wrapped up in it to begin with. So, I checked out the website, and I was interested, and figured some folks who keep an eye out on these games might be interested too.
And as time has gone by, I have realized how serious the folks behind this game are. They are willing to put aside their ego's, and create a game that everyone, not just they want to play. I was very impressed by their desire to create a quality product. They constantly say..."but the biggest ***** gamers have is xxxxxxxxx, how can we change that?" That impressed me.
So, my intent was less to decieve, than to not invest any of myself in this endeavor. Whick I now wish to recant. My apologies to any that feel decieved.

Though he was trying to promo a game he is connected with, in some way, I don't think he really did it in an inappropriate fashion, as he did in a forum that RPG discussion is supposed to be in, and created a seperate thread for it. Though, if you wish to continue to advertise it, then place the link into your signature. But, this thread has served its basic purpose, so it will be closed.
