Just curios if anyone here on the SYM is a fan of Hunter S. Thompsons work, he is a great writer and journalist (albiet non traditional and no probably mad an crazy). If you are unsure you know of him you most likely saw him portrayed by Johnny Depp in the movie based off his true story "Fear and Loathing in las Vegas"

Anyhow if you are I say GO READ "The Rum Diary" his first work of true fiction, because the movie is being made right now with Johnny Depp returning the role woo hoo.

Yeah I am a reader of HST...Although I confess that the Rum Diaries is probably his one book I've not read...I haven't seen the film of Fear & Loathing....is it good?

IMO The high point of Thompson's literary (and political) career was the Prospective Manifesto (or whatever) for the freak power movement, published in Playboy IIRC, but I read it in The Great Shark Hunt....Changing 'Aspen' to 'Fat City' is genius....Have you seen him in real life or on TV?
I remember a TV interview of him that I saw on video...he was sitting, yes, on The Porch with a bottle of WT or rum, just sitting, drinking. I had enormous respect fo him...he was making no effort to appear respectable or say anything interesting, other than what he was thinking. By the end of the edited, but probably two or three hour long interview, he was almost comatose from alcoholic influence. He was slouching, slurring, mumbling, and just carrying on.
