Weapons and Foes

Post by Nagroth »

Hi ! My lvl 8 paladin has recently encountered some liches and doom knights in some fan-made modules. The problem is these critters can´t be killed with my +1 weapons. What kinds of weapons do I need ? Since I play solo, there is no magic assistance available. Are there any other common enemies with weapons restrictions ?

About anything which has damage reduction -/2 or more.
DR works like this:
It's the principle of a magic field, hardness, very fast healing or something else which deducts some damage from your blows
You've got 2 numbers, the first shows how much damage is deducted. The second shows which bonus a magical weapon should have to ignore the DR (a +1 weapon ignores DR -/1 a +2 weapon ignores -/ 1 or 2).
So anything which has DR -/2+ can't be harmed by a +1 weapon.

Actually it can be harmed, its just the number of the reduction is subtracted from every hit. That much damage simply heals immediatly. This is a much better idea than 2nd edition where damage reduction shrugged off all damage, thus being damage immunity, unless the magic level of the weapon was high enough, I always hated that rule. Certain creatures simply have damage reduction that is all encompassing. Barbarians for example at certain levels will gain DR 1/- this means that all physical damage is reduced by one regardless of what you are being hit with. I can't think of any creatures off the top of my head that have this but I know there are some.
It is best to be thought a fool and stay silent, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.
