Just a thought

Post by RandomThug »

I had a real unusual experiance last night, rather a moment of weakness. An old girlfriend called, who happened to move away to another state recently, and seemed extremly apathetic to my problems. She refered to me as sweetie and was more friendly than a girl should be. Exspecially one who moved with her new boyfriend. I also noticed she has called me a lot more in the last week than in the last couple months (she moved last week). So I am at a confused place. I felt weak when she called and actually hinted on her coming back into town. It was a wierd convsersation fueled by the fact I miss her and I now know obviusly she misses me (perhaps not at the same level). Anyways to my point. She has a boyfriend, lives with him in a nice house in another state. She still calls me and such. Its like she is being cruel by being kind... and I was reminded of a song lyric by a band that i love so much Bad Religion..

"Life is the crummiest book I've ever read, there isnt a hook just a lot of cheap shots pictures that shock characters an amuetur would never dream up"

My question is what quote from your favorite band fuels your emotions. Elaborate. This one is obviuos from my previus statement.

Well, I say expect the worse. That way, if it turns out to be just a friend calling to chat, then you won't be dissapointed. But, if it's something more, then you'll be pleasantly surprised. But anyway, don't make any moves towards, just wait until your sure of what her intentions are, and try not to become confused.

I'm a fairly laid-back guy; I'm generally not excitable in either crises or in good times, and I feel pretty good about life (both mine and in general) so my favourite song quote is by Jimmy Buffett:

If it suddenly ended tomorrow,
I could somehow adjust to the fall,
Good times and riches, and son of a *****es,
I've seen more than I can recall,

--Changes in Lattitudes, Changes in Attitudes
Jesus saves! And takes half damage!

I agree with Aegis, don't read anything in to it or make any moves, she is the one who is living with her boyfriend, so if she really wants something with you, let her make the move in that case.

I'm a high energy person and I want a lot of change, pressure and stress around me. I also get bored if I don't have a lot of passionate emotions about things. This is from "Yoga" by Björk:

how beautiful to be
state of emergency
is where i want to be"

Not my favourit band, but I listen to them rather frequently...

Covenant - 2D

in segments days are passing relentless as a legion
yet silent like assassins a poision in my bloodstream
reluctant but impatient i sit and measure minutes
so conscious counting fragments my lasting moments vanish

This is how I feel quite often... how am i supposed to enjoy the life when I know it will eventually end?
While others climb the mountains High, beneath the tree I love to lie
And watch the snails go whizzing by, It's foolish but it's fun

I don't want to spam Random's thread, but has it ever occurred to you how important it is to enjoy life while it lasts just because it is all you will ever have and it will end?

Stop and consider! life is but a day;
A fragile dew-drop on its perilous way
From a tree's summit

Would it overly worry anyone if I said that my emotions were fueled by Radiohead? OK, well I won't :D

Music doesn't really influence me all that much I think, depressing music doesn't depress me, but rather sometimes I just think how much worse someone else's day must have been to write such a song. One song that has helped me a couple of times is "Waste", by Staind. If you know the song, you know what problems I went through :)

@frogus, that's really lovely. What is it?

David Bowie wrote a lot of really good lyrics in the early 70's, when he made albums like The man who sold the world and Diamond dogs. Here's a snip from one of my favorite songs by Bowie, Sweet thing:

If you want it, boys, get it here thing
'Cause hope, boys, is a cheap thing, cheap thing

Is it nice in your snow storm, freezing your brain?
Do you think that your face looks the same?
Then let it be, it's all I ever wanted
It's a street with a deal, and a taste
It's got claws, it's got me, it's got you

Another artist who always wrote good lyrics although I don't like the music, was Peter Gabriel. I'll post one in the lyrics thread.

A couple quotes, I think, from a couple of my favourite bands. Music has really helped me with my life, and quite possibly kept me alive once.

Staind, "Outside"

But I'm on the outside and I'm looking in
I can see through you, see your true colours
Because inside your ugly, ugly like me
I can see through you, see the real you

Incubus, "Pardon me"

Pardon me, while I burst, into flames
I've had enough of this world, and its people's mindless games
So pardon me, while I burst, and rise above the flames
Pardon me, pardon me, I won't ever be the same

Limp Bizkit, "Re-arranged"

You think that everybody's the same
I don't that anybody's like you
You ruin everything, you kept f***ing with me
You feel its over and I, won't be the same

Those are the quotes that kind of explain my life. Not completely, though, as I can't seem to think of one that really does.

The folks in Florida may not be able to elect a president, but they're smart enough to make Jimmy Buffett their Official State Troubadour. I'll bet that you didn't know that in Florida it's illegal not to like Jimmy Buffett or frozen mixed drinks. In fact, if you proclaim that you don't even know who Jimmy Buffett is, the Florida Highway Patrol will drive you to the Georgia state line and you won't be allowed back in the state until you can recite from memory the words to "Margaritaville".

Okay, that last part's not exactly true, but it should be.

Anyway, Jimmy Buffett's music is perfect for the end of the day, when you put all of your troubles behind you, and imagine yourself sitting on a beach somewhere watching the sun set with nothing around you but the waves, sand and a pitcher of margarita mix.

Well, when I am depressed or things are going wrong, I tend to sing along with the song: "Blasphemous Rumors" by Depeche Mode.
The chorus goes like:
"I dont want to start any blasphemous rumors, but I think that Gods got a sick sense of humor. And when I die, I expect to find him laughing"

That usually makes me feel better because it is demonstating my dissaproval, while I dont agree with the lyrics a whole lot, it makes me feel better.

The lyrics that really apply heavily to my life, I think, comes from Apoptygma Berzerk and one of their songs called "Non Stop Violence" I think the lyrics of this part have to deal with putting things off to the last minute, which is something I always do:
"So I take shelter in tomorrow
Tomorrow will bring a brand new day
I think I can make it right tomorrow
I think I need more sleep today

Lets play for keeps again tomorrow
I need a pill to stay awake
I guess I'll always hate tomorrow
Until it's far away..."

Great song, that one is
“Caw, Caw!” The call of the wild calls you. Are you listening? Do you dare challenge their power? Do you dare invade? Nature will always triumph in the end.

@Kam - That's off Dark Side of the Moon...can't remember which song, but it might be 'Breath' (?) :)

As for David Bowie, I have never found any of his lyrics really moving, apart from one unexpected number on his second most recent album, 'hours'...The song's called..umm...Something in the Air *searches for lyrics*...

The best lines -

'We smile too fast
Then can't think of a thing to say'

BTW - google has revealed that this song was on the soundtrack to American Psyco, although I've not seen the movie myself :) . It is a ridiculously tragic song...it leaves you so uncomfortable, and full of emotions like gunk in your sinuses :(

"Breathe in the Air" by Pink Floyd...great song

Last verse is:

Run rabbit run
Dig that hole, forget the sun.
When at last the work is done
Don't sit down it's time to start another one
For long you live and high you fly
But only if you ride the tide
And balanced on the biggest wave
You race toward an early grave.

Another cheery song I think of when I'm depressed is "Born Under a Bad Sign" - one line in particular

If it wasn't for bad luck, wouldn't have no luck at all
