Woah, you're pretty tall.

Maybe you should list your eating habits, exercise routines etc?

A fit and muscular athlete could be heavier than you, but still not overweight. The weight isn't really that important, it's the amount of body fat that counts for health aspects. If you really feel you need to loose weight, I recommend that you don't diet, instead, you (and all other people who want to become slimmer) need a general change of life style and habits. Eating habits, exercise habits - there is something that is not balanced since you feel you are overweight now. Analysis of what needs to change is an important start. Not setting unrealistic goals and trying to diet by starving oneself, is also very important. And by all means, don't take any diet pills!

Diet programs that lead to lasting change, typically starts with analysis where the person writes down his habits during a period of down. When you eat, what you eat and how much. When and how much you exercise, and what you do.

Next follow an anaysis of why you eat. Typically, people with overweight problems not only eat the wrong food and move to little, they also eat for the wrong reasons. Many people eat not because they are really hungry, but because they are bored, sad, or other emotions that is not hunger. Many also eat too much at one occation, they don't feel when the stomach is full.

If you are in a bad shape physically, you should start exercising slowly - not going to the gym 5 times a week and press hard for 2 hours.

@Zul: Doesn't sound like you have unhealthy eating habits, perhaps you just exercise to little. It also sounds like you have a good plan already :)

Apart from working out, it is very important to increase the everyday moving rate. I was touristing at Key West a couple of years ago, and I asked someone for the way to a place. He started giving me directions as if I was going by car, and I said: no, I'm walking. He stared at me like I was crazy, and said: "But it's almost a mile!" Now, a mile to me is very short, I am used to walking several miles each day. Always driving is a safe way to gain weight if you are not careful - try to walk as much as possible.

Not 7, several :D Perhaps 4-5 miles a day. I walk fast, so it's no bad means of transport. It takes me less than 30 minutes to walk to work, if it took 2 hours I wouldn't walk, that's too much. Perhaps you could try walking shorter distances, like when you are meeting your friends. I always walk downtown when I meet my friends, 1-2 hours of walking burns a lot of energy. Since you are living at a pretty place like Key West, you could also considering walking along the beaches with a pretty girl :D Walking on sand is good exercise :D

Take up a sport or a few sports, and bug your friends to come with you. We are always doing something, diving in summer, basketball in winter and soccer and other stuff mixed in between.

And like CE said, walking is good. I walk to my campus, it takes around 30 minutes but it gives me time to think and walking through parks is wonderful especially in the morning. ;)

I'm 6'3" and I weigh nearly 200 pounds Zul, trust me on this. Muscle is heavier than fat and you sound like a pretty muscular bloke (your diet generally promotes oppourtunities to burn off fat and calories). Swim, run, cycle and exercise. Do everything that would tire the hell out of you, and then you'll be burning quickly. :)

Some recent research gave the impression that exercising in the morning is not healthy for ones body, my whole day is one long morning at the moment ;) :D

@Zul, i was at one point in my life 245 pounds at about 6 ft, now that was weighty! I am now about 190-200 pounds all i did was not eat as much, which you seem to be doing, and it all just sort of went away ;) , i am a wide build so it is difficult for me to go below my current weight, if anything it will increase as i get back exercising again due to (as Nippy said) muscle being heavier than fat.

Well i was 105 kgs (231 pounds) around a year ago.
Now i am around 85 (187 pounds) now.
I am close to 6 feet, around 5 10 i think.
What i did was cut down on the oil, chocolate and stuff.
Eat 3 times a day with nothing in between except for fruits.
And played cricket.

Need to start up on that again, need to lose a bit more for health reasons mainly.

Indeed, i think the most important thing i cut out of my diet was chocolate, i don't even like it very much any more, once one stops eating it for a long period the pull of chocolate is not as large...

Agreed, i dont work out much, as a buff body is bad for cricket.
Rather i watch what i eat, eat far more fruits now, they replace chocolate for me.

When I graduated from college, I weighed 120 lbs.; after being with my wife for the last 5 years, I now weight 150 lbs. Part of it is that I'm eating more food and more often, but it's also that I'm exercising less.

I think our friend C Elegans hit on something when she says you must ask yourself why you're eating. There's a girl who works downstairs who is majorly overweight. She's having gastric bypass surgery in a couple of weeks because no diet has worked for her. Gastric bypass won't work for her either because she eats incessently and unless she is willing to change her lifestyle (which I don't believe she is), any weight she loses in the wake of her surgery will be gained back because she won't quit eating. She snacks when she's bored and she turns to food as a comfort mechanism.

I am of the opinion that everyone is built to look a certain way; some people are large and others are small. However, if everyone eats a reasonably balanced diet of reasonable protions and does a moderate amount of exercise, they will be farily healthy and will "fit" into their body. I think that many people diet because they have a poor body image and that they try to fit themselves into a body type they were not meant to have. On the flip side, I think that many people, especially in the United States (where we have an excess of food), are lethargic about their eating and want to take a miracle pill that will help them lose weight while they sleep without any effort on their own behalf (either in terms of moderating their diet or getting off their butts and exercising).

If you're getting to the point where you think that you're becoming unhealthy, you might try a group exercise activity. I've found that if I don't have a little bit of peer pressure to show up and exercise, I won't do it. I'd suggest martial arts because on top of its fitness aspect, it also instills qualities like discipline, perserverence, integrity, and comraderie. Plus, after about seven or eight years of training, you'll be able to fight better.

*flips through the phone book, humming her CM is going down song*

:)

Zul: *hug* Lots of good advice here. I don't really have any as I have horrible eating habits, but my one bit is to listen to your body. *shrugs* Our bodies tend to know how much and what they want, yet we tend not to listen.

@Vivien:
If you just want to beat up on CM, you're better off going to an army surplus store and buying some pepper spray or a taser.
