Bug or feature re rangers animal companion

Post by C Elegans »

A few days ago I got my animal companion, and I choose a Giant Spider, I like spiders. I noticed that the poor things dies very easily, but didn't play attention to this since I've heard from reliable sources that the spider is quite weak.

Anyway, when I levelled up and go the opportunity to choose animal companion again, I noticed my Spider has only 4 HP? Lvl:ing up resulting in him getting 9 HP. But the character sheet you see when choosing him, says he should have 31 HP?

I am confused

I noticed this with my panther. They linked the animal companions to that of a druid since they are exactly the same anyway. The problem being is when you finally get one it seems as if the game is showing you the companion of a druid of like level when in the character sheet when leveling but the representation you actually get in game is that a ranger of your level should actually have, that of a druid 5 levels lower. So you are actually getting the correct companion you are simply being shown what the same companion would look like for a druid of your level in the leveling up scree. Its another of the myriad of annoying bugs.

Hmmm, I am not sure I understand here. Is it level 6 that a ranger gets an animal companion? and you are saying that this companion will show as a level one does to a druid on start up? When you liken levels, are you likening the companion of a level six ranger to a level six druid?

@Ysh: I am not sure when a druid gets their companion, but as a ranger you get it at lvl 6, but then companion is then lvl 1 I think. If i understand things correctly, the problem is that the char sheet shows the animal companion as if you were a lvl 6 druid, not ranger - thus looking like it is a much higher lvl than it is actually is for the ranger.

Exactly. If I were to take a panther companion as a first level druid it would be exactly the same as that of a ranger taking the same panther at 6th level. The problem arises because in the level up screen the game is showing you what the panther would be if you were a druid of x level, not a ranger.

Ah! now I understand - thanks :)

@CE - a druid gets an animal companion from the offset, and gets the option to change this one for another at each level up.
