It was, in the latter half of the show's history.

One of my favourite shows is Due South. A great comedy programme, and it even has Canadians! Others up there in comedy are The Simpsons and Futurama (yes I like that too), Red Dwarf, Blackadder and Monty Python, yes everything that everyone else likes

It was shown in the US for a while...on PBS. A lot of British shows are shown on PBS...Keeping Up Appearances? (I believe this was the name) was pretty good.
Another one from there...(I haven't seen it in years) Benny Hill.
Edit... I liked Northern Exposure for while as well.

Good Neighbors was another British import series I enjoyed when it ran here in the States. You know, I wish the BBC and US public television would agree to reruns of some of the best things done in the past, like I, Claudius, Good Neighbors, the Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin, etc. It seems that after they're given a good run, they're retired--permanantly.

British comedy? Anyone remember a show called 'Allo, 'Allo? It was set in a French bar during WWII. Absolutely the best British comedy I have ever seen! It even beats out Fawlty Towers (IMO).
Over here, I liked Mad About You very much, and also a sci-fi show that got cancelled too soon: Babylon 5.
Still, I'll never go back to owning a TV!

Or Goodnight Sweetheart. That was pretty good sometimes.

I'm a bit surprised nobody has mentioned Frasier or Friends, both being large commercial successes. Even though they become somewhat repetitive, I have to say I still like them. I also like Seinfeld (without being able to say what makes the show so funny).

Life seems short considering how long you will be dead.
Shows that are commercially successful for a long time tend to stick to a "safe' formula, and all of the characters tend to get nicer.
In the last few series of M*A*S*H, everybody was pleasant, all brilliant surgeons, no hanky-panky with Hotlips, Klinger not in drag etc.
Who knows, if we get to Blackadder series 50 or so, Blackadder may have become a kindly old man with a gentle wry sense of humour, Baldric a simple character but with a heart of gold etc etc.
I love british comedy shows. The best ar Allo Allo, Mind your Language and the fairly new South Asia show. I forgot the name. Also loved You rang m'lord. And red dwarf is classic. But havent seen it for nearly 2 years. Did they bring back rimmer?

The Kumars at No. 42. It's a British chat show in the style of Parkinson, only it's with an indian family (all actors pretending to be a family). Quite well acted, and the grandma is just too cool.
