Just wondering how many rogue levels I need if I don't plan on taking a henchman that can disarm.
What's the highest trap DC you've seen?
How much disarm skill is enough?
Thanks.
And it's good that someone knew what I meant, because I said "Disarm", which is a combat skill, when I meant "Disable Trap".
40 DC is pretty high. I think that means my disable trap skill will need to be 20. As a rogue I will get 10 skill points per level and I need to put points in open lock too, so I'll probably go with about 4 rogue levels - less if I find a good item that boosts either, or both, skills.

Don't forget you can only purchase up to 3 ranks more than your level in skills for class skills and half of that number for cross class skills. So if you are 4th level you can only purchase up to 7 total ranks. Then you add in your dex bonus and any other misc bonsuses.

Thanks Datt.
What I mean is I will get 4 rogue levels overall, but not 4 in a row at the beginning.
If I take a rogue level as char level 2 then I can put 5 points in disable trap and open lock.
If I take my next rogue level as char level 7 then I can put another 5 points in those skills.
Repeat at level 12 and level 17. Admittedly, between those rogue levels those skills will lag behind.

Disarm gets really interesting if you manage to collect the traps in qeustion, because good traps are hard to find and awfully expensive. At the moment I'm Rogue 5 / Ranger 7, maxed out in disarming traps (including focus and set traps bonus) and I manage to collect 95% of the floor traps I encounter in chapter 2. Chest and door traps are more difficult, but if DC 40 is the max value, one should be able to master those traps sooner or later.
