I play a wizard, and have trouthfully added points to spellcraft, as I always do when roleplaying, but I just got wondering, if I don't try to cast counterspells, and I never do, then there really is no need for me to have any points in spellcraft is there ?
Does anyone actually use counterspells, sure if u try and looses a battle, then u can load and mem the correct spells before, but otherwise its seems to be to much trouble.

The only use for Spellcraft in NWN is to identify spells for means of counterspell, so if you don't bother counterspelling than its pretty useless. And I believe it has uses for means of the wizard scribing spells to his spellbook, as it does in D&D, but Im not sure.
It is best to be thought a fool and stay silent, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

Well, besides counterspelling, simply knowing what your enemies are up to is good in itself.
A tiny but rather interesting detail about the NWN version of Spellcraft is that it gives you a +1 Save versus Spells bonus for every 5 ranks.
