John Frankenheimer, 72, dies of stroke

If you havn't heard- John Frankenheimer, director of such movies like The Manchurian Candidate, Birdman of Alcatraz and Ronin died of a stroke Saturday, which was caused by complications from spinal surgory.

A little depressing. I don't like it when icons in a particularl field pass on, leaving a void behind.

Personally, I never liked his stuff. He always seemed very both serious and superficial (to me), as in the Birdman of Alcatraz--which missed about 95% of the story of its subject. Turgid, heavy direction. My POV, of course.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
