That's the first time I've heard anyone say anything like that about Holland, especially considering its capital is Amsterdam.

8 years, that's a lot, I only went one time. My parents were highly exaggregating and there was no reason at all for them to be upset  I wasn't drunk at all - I don't drink alcohol, and I didn't as a teen either. It was just that I met a very tall friend of mine in the crowd in front of Lou Reed, and my friend was kind enough to let me sit on his shoulders...so I had to pull my skirt up, so what, I wasn't naked beneath it!
Aha, having to stay home with the kid could of course make any city boring!

Me too! :D

Because when a lousy band does covers of great bands music, it is blasphemy!

You have a point there, but im going to ignore it as I was merly trying to say something short and positive of Rammstein.

Still I dont think they are that bad... :o

According to the film site you recommended, we share taste in movies...obviously not so in music.

Let's see if our taste in music coincides somewhere:

Shostakovitch? Rimsky-Korsakov? Schnittke? Lester Young? Miles Davis? Kraftwerk? Residents? Grandmaster Flash? Björk?

Kraftwerk obviously. Schnittke I actually listened to abit on your advice, Though I've perhaps havnt heard enough to be 100% sure of my opinion I didnt like it that much. Im comfortable listening to Björk, but she's certainly not one of my favourites. My experiances with The residenst are also to few to really base an opinion on, but what I've heard I have liked.

@Dottie: You actually listened to Schnittke on my advice??? Nice - I never thought anyone was influenced by my advice on music and literature! :D

Bored? Moi? I was just going to post in Tom's book corner, let's see if you like any of the book I will posts, if you have read them.

I must admitt I usally dont bother since people (including me :o ) tend to advice about things that they like and not things they would think I like. There are always exceptions though... ;)

Did I say I thought you would like Schnittke? I must have been out of my mind. I do however think you should like Residents, Snakefinger and perhaps Philip Glass (a contemporary composer).

Why so? Its definatly not horrible, even though I dont like it.

Do you know if Schnittke and Philip Glass have collaborated or something? The songs I have include both names...

Schittke has a large production, it depends a lot on what you've heard. Some of his music is very difficult, especially for people who aren't used to symphonic music. Schnittke and Glass have never collaborated as far as I know, but the record company Deutsche Grammophone has released a CD with both their violin concertos on, and it's quite famous...is it the pieces from that CD you have found?

If you like contemporary composers, you should also try Arvo Pärt...I recently bought a very nice modern violin and cello music CD by Pärt to a friend.

While you are at it, try Stockhausen too...the father of electronic music, very experimental stuff. He got the Polar prize from the Swedish academy of arts last year.

Also try Lygeti, who wrote the strange music for the homnoid scenes in the movie 2001. A friend of mine has recorded Lygeti's complete piano works, he got very good reviews.
