the game of games arrived at my doorstep yesterday afternoon (i ordered from amazon). i had to wait until my daughter went to bed to play and it was good. i started the game with a half-elf fighter (multiclassing with thief) and the prelude was quite easy. my highest ability score is 16. i tried to make a rounded character, for good roleplaying purposes. i am not too fond of the "reccommended" skills. they seem to put everything in parry and discipline. the camera angle is a little tough to get used to (reminds me of everquest). right now i am toggling between "top down" and "chase." so far the only problem that i run in to is the movie scenes. the picture is fine but the sound freezes.
current system is:
pIII 1.0 gig
512 ram
32mb ati rage
soundblaster
i here a lot of bad things about ati. i think i will swap it out the next time i upgrade my processor. geforce seems to be the card of choice.
it's here, it's here, it's here

turn off some of the bells and whistles associated with sound and video options. that should take care of the choppy sound. experiment a bit, turn off all options and then see which ones you like and find the best balance of options vs. performance.

You might also want to lower the cache size of your CD-ROM drive. This is available in different locations, depending upon your Windows flavor; on Win 98, it's under the Control Panel's System Properties/Performance/File System/CD-ROM.
