NWN Warning! Please read if you intend on purchasing

Post by Aegis »

Okay, this is just a friendly warning to those who wish to purchase NWN. Many people within the community that have purchased this game are unable to run it. Issues with the game freezing, and crashing are common, among other problems. Please, consider this purchase carefully, and make sure your computer will able to run it. From what it seems, minimum requirements are not enough, and it desperatly needs a beefy computer to run it properly, without having to wait for patches.

Thanks for the warning.
Am I glad that i'm one of the lucky people, who has passed his exams last year, and saved up a lot of money to get himself a P4 1,6Ghz.
That should be enough!
I do not have the touch, nor do I have the power.

Here's the link to Bioware's current page of known issues:

Wow, it still doesn't list all the bugs. They neglected to mention the fact that it freezes for 30% of the people who bought it.

Ancient times they had no statistics so they had to fall back on lies

"I'm invinceable"
"your a loony"

I'd rather be rich than stupid.

If trees could scream, would we be so cavalier about cutting them down? We might, if they screamed all the time, for no good reason.

From the Bioware Tech service Forums. Of the 73000 people registered on those forums, about 17000 people have posted topics or added to topics about freezing, crashing, teleporting issues, cursor issues and whatnot. The game is bugged, and Bioware is doing ot little to fix the important issues. Instead they are dealing with netcode issues, which, IMHO are quite minor when compared to issues that keep people from playing the game.

I don't think your PC specs make the game crash earlier.
A p3 600 or a p4 1,6 should have the same chance of craching (and burning ;) ) IMO.

I'll see it when I'll see it.
Thanx anyway Aegis. Try not to be bitter about it. :)

@Aegis: Sorry about your crashing problems. I can sympathize, because I'm having problems of my own. I have a Voodoo 5, which is not supported by NWN since 3dfx went out of business and hasn't been updating their drivers. But you got to calm down. Saying that the game freezes for 30% of users isn't something you can say from that data. Why do you think the majority of people register in an official forum? Two reasons: game tips, or technical support. So of course the percentage of people with technical issues is going to be high.

Again, you have my sympathies. I wish there was something I could do to help, but I hardly know enough about this stuff to get myself by, let alone instruct someone else. :(

Editted--hadn't read your other thread yet.

Actually, I received that number from the number of fresh topics, and number of people browsing the tech service board at any given time. It is a pretty accurate number, and is quite disconcerting.

Sorry my friend that the game is not running for you. Seems to me though you should not start a thread saying that you need a 2GH rig with ultimate hardware to run the game cause that isn't so. Also seems to me that you are twisting inaccuracies or pointing to any thing that may substantiate your crusade no matter how biased or unfounded. I really, really feel for you. This isn't meant as a flame at all cause I can see your pain shining thru on your posts but it doesn't negate the fact that the game runs reliably for the majority. Here is a recent poll, http://www.neverwinterhaven.com/ , also use a search engine for NWN reviews. Tell me how many state the game will not run or is totally bugged. Again sorry and if there is anyway I can do to help, let me know. Other than coming to your house or running a remote on your PC to check your system, I don't know what it would be. Maybe you could post an entire PC setup here. I mean mobo, hd, type and make of ram, what do you see when you hit alt-ctl-del, vid card type and vendor, ..any and all. Hell who knows, maybe we can track your prob. BTW just for the record the game crashed tonight on me for the first time. I was trying on a new suit of armor while still in trade with a merchant. Seems thats a no-no.

Guys, please. Let's not get into a numbers argument. Online polls are statistically suspect. Let's just agree to differ for now, and leave it at that, okay?
