Ah, but I'm of the opinion that it's a two party monopoly. As I've written before, here, the Democrats have no ideas, while the Republicans only have one, and its wrong. As long as they keep the power securely between themselves, fundamental problems remain unaddressed, since addressing those problems invites the involvement of the electorate--who are never meant to think strongly about important matters of government. And in the meantime, each new Congress and President seems to make their respective offices seem...shabbier. Bush Sr. admitted publically that we were saving Kuwait for the oil--way to go, idealism. Reagan was the first one to stuff the Supreme Court with ideological laptogs. Clinton lied to Congress, and betrayed his wife in the White House. Dubyah's playing a variant on the Joe McCarthy card to whip up a war mentality for his otherwise vacuous presidency. Cynicism and disrespect for government seems nowhere more prevalent than among the occupants of the offices, themselves.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

I will admit to adhering to a more Machiavellian standard when it comes to government, (hence my Anakin response to contrast with HLD’s pacifist Yoda quote) especially when it comes to matters of national defense. Besides, I have little faith in the American legal system.
"We have a criminal jury system which is superior to any in the world; and its efficiency is only marred by the difficulty of finding twelve men every day who don't know anything and can't read."

Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.
I specifically stayed away from this thread in the beginning as it would come across as American Bashing. But I agree with most, that he should be given constitutional rights here. If he did indeed try to plant a dirty bomb, his rigths should be limited but he should get the common thing any guy gets. Right to a lawyer, visiting hours from family only who should be given a through background check etc. But you can just send him off to the base on Cuba and forget about him.
